Maybe she wasn't familiar with the area. I don't know the area, but wasn't she from 50 miles away from where the accident happened.
MU not 50 miles from Spring Run; Close to 50 from Chambersburg, but likely around 27 or so from Spring Run

Our family is trying desperately to find out the name of the lady killed in this accident. I am not from this area so I am not familiar with the newspapers. I have searched the internet and looked for obituaries, but nothing seems to be posted. If anyone can help us, we would really appreciate it.

Forsure, the lady in the Metro was on 641, which runs E to W. The dumptruck driver was on 75, which runs N to S. He was going South when the lady was driving West and came through the stop sign without stopping; therefore, striking her on the driver's side. A very sad accident. I feel so sorry for both sides. Who knows why she went through the stop sign. It is not for us to judge when we do not know. God Bless that poor truck driver who has to deal with all of it and just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Hope that helps.

Bia....my condolences to you and your family, I can't begin to understand the horrible feelings that go through your minds and hearts every waking moment of the days and even while trying to get some sleep which I'm sure doesn't want to come.
Yes, that particular intersection is a bad one and some people do not seem to see or understand the meaning of RED LIGHT or sometimes the word STOP. I think it a shame such sorrow has to accompany such actions. You don't have to be in your 80's to not stop at that intersection, many, many people a lot younger than that lady have and do do the same actions there.
Maybe, an unmarked car or truck, should sit in the area quite a few times to get the message through some minds.

her name was June Patterson she was my grandmother. She was 76 years old not 86. She knew the area knew that the inersection was there. we do not know why she didnt stop at the intersection. She knew that it was there and she would've been making a left turn. our thoughts and prayers go to your brother and family.

Connie - Thank you so much. I am so glad I was able to make contact with you. We were at our wits end trying to at least let you know how sorry we all are for the passing of your grandmother. The reporting of this story has been very poor. There were a lot of mistakes in the articles that have run in the different newspapers.

We did find out your grandmother's name last Friday and contacted an ex-daughter-in-law. My brother left his name and number with her in case any one else in the family would like to talk to him. We have been looking for her obituary to see if there was a charity or somewhere our family could make a contribution in her memory. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this most difficult time. We are so sorry for your loss. God bless.

Thank you Humphrey. Even when something is not your fault and is unavoidable at this accident was, it is still a very haunting experience. My brother comes from a family of law enforcement officers and you are correct about the unmarked car. My husband sometimes places marked police cars at dangerous locations just as a deterrent. I pray no one else loses their life at that intersection and that your State Department of Transportation recognizes that something needs to be done.
