Sounds to me like you're justifying the issue of you not being able to afford the D-town area, being a D-towner coming up and all, so you pumping up jacket-town and putting down D-town. I know this post got your panties in an uproar!
School Teacher, my panties are just fine trust me. My husband and I actually can afford Downingtown, that's no bid deal. I found the better home in Coatesville, I got more land and home for the dollar. I'm not stuck on a name I enjoy quality and the quality of life that my family is enjoying in Coatesville is just fine. Seems to me only a dumb ass goes only off someone elses opinions. I make up my own! Now take that back to the elementary school you crawled out of, school is now out!

No... actually you didn't get my panties in an uproar... Downingtown has child molestation problems... swept under the rug... Arsonists... Drug problems... & please don't get it twisted I purchased my home because I got more home for the money "Think Investment"... I put $50K as a down payment on my home... You problem went for one of those mortgages that made you loose your house! Oh yeah... check the figures... Downingtown has more home foreclosures then Coatesville! & U can take that to the bank... that is if you have any money with this economy!

I'm from Philly and I now live in Coatesville and I have to say that the school here suck a**. No offense but I LOOOOOOOVE DOWNINGTOWN and I WOULD CHOOSE DOWNINGTOWN OVER COATESVILLE ANYDAY. I would def. rather be in D-town East &/or D-town West than the 9/10 or CASH. Esp. D-Town East. I don't think that Downingtown is full of Clique and Snobs like they say it is. I think I would be PERFECT over there. COATESVILLE HIGH IS SOOOO LAME AS SHIT. and yeah I live in Caln Township...for now.

I live in Coatesville- other than the arsons (not Coatesville's fault) we haven't had any problems. The schools aren't that great but they're getting better/ And you always have area charter schools like Collegium to send your kids to- IF you're willing to put in a little effort with the application process and everything.

Maybe Coatesville's foreclosures are less than downingtown because most of the homes there are owned by landlords who are renting them?

Coatesville is a hole and needs to be kept that way. If Coatesville improves the BS from that city will only move to another area. Keep it Contained in Coatesville!

It is infuriating to me that we pay the same taxes (if not more) as nearby school districts but we are forced to accept crappy schools. Downingtown, West Chester, Unionville and Twin Valley consistently rank much higher in the state that Coatesville. As of last year Coatesville ranked 363 out of about 500 districts in the state whereas Downingtown ranked 29th. All the surrounding districts are in the top 50 and then here's Coatesville, high taxes, 363rd place. What are we paying for? Its certainly not new facilities since most students are attending class in a school that is 90 years old and falling apart or in trailers (the school grounds of Kings Hwy looks like a trailer park) or in a school that is sinking into a swamp. Downingtown is constantly building, even now they are planning a new 6th grade center. I'm not saying that shiny new building necessarily mean quality education but sometimes the outside does give indication of what is happening on the inside. Please someone tell me the secret. Better yet, tell the school board. They are obviously clueless. I just wish I could pick up my house and move it 5 miles east.

All you barbaric big-mouths, just pass this post by and go to Eagles camp or something instead.

Anyone with a rational brain, here's the deal:

In Pa. there is a law that says that municiplaities, counties, school districts, port authorities, etc. can use the state's sovereign wpower of eminent domain to condemn parcels of property anywhere in their jurisdiction *OR* parcels of property that merely border their jurisdiction. The brouhaha here is about one municipality taking over property that is located in another municipality (after paying fair market value, of course) and the first municipality is seen by some as a very sleazy, economically downtrodden rust-belt artifact, while the surrounding municipality is a mixture of farms and homes on large lots and the occasional townhouse development.

However, from personal knowledge, there are many sleazy folks from the surrounding township too, lots of mid-80s Mercury Grand Marquises driven by social security burdens.

Wow I'm sorry but Downingtown vs. Coatesville is like which food is healthier for you, McDonalds or Burger King. Both horrible options. Unless you're coming from Compton out in CA be prepared for a dramatic lessening in quality of life.
