'Stop And Frisk' Plan Implemented In Coatesville

A city in Chester County came up with a Stop and Frisk Plan similar to one supported by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter.

This is just plain wrong. Nothing like trampling on our Consitutional Rights as a US citizen. I think Nutter, Coatsville can find a better tactic to utilize. rest assured, these Municipalities will be challenged in the Appellet Courts in the near future. Stop and Frisk is a right of law enforcement that has been in place for years. I think all of the schools, courthouses, government offices and lots of other public places should start it sooner than later. Perhaps many situations would have ended differently if it was done more frequently. I know the F. Lee Bailey's of tommorrow will object the problem is it is today not tommorrow and it have been a challenged and upheld law many times. Good luck with your safer streets Coatsville, but typically there is not enough staff to effectively do it.

I just hope that this will in fact do what they intend it to do and not create more racial strife in an already volatile situation. Given the fact that this is the town that lynched a man 100 years ago and treated it as "entertainment" after church makes me uneasy.

The article states it will be enforced in known high crime areas. If I was a resident living in one of those areas, I would be glad to know that the cops were cracking down on gun violence. That's how those freaky accidents happen. Innocent people getting shot right in their own homes. I hear about it on Channel 6 news often enough.

I HAVE EVEN BEEN THE VICTOM OF SOME HARSH AND UNJUST TREATMENT EVEN AS A SITTING CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT, BUT SINCE THEN MUCH HAS CHANGED. UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF FOUR COUNCIL MEMBERS ELECTED IN 06 WE HIRED A CHIEF WITH A MANDATE TO IMPLAMENT COMMUNITY POLICING STRATEGIES. I still call Coatesville home. I left there for the military in 1965. I try to follow what is going on there and I can not believe that the problem is so bad that "STOP AND FRISK" is the answer. Why does every one ignore the obvious issue,... black people are profiled for one reason in coatesville. That reason is that a large population of black residents of c-ville dress and act like Gangsters and Thugs. You don't want to be profiled,...lose the stereotype image of thugs and gansters. Dress better, act better, and conform to the norm of the rest of society. I am not saying conform to white people, I am saying conform to a style that does not look like "trouble." Most white people are not profiled because they do not act like a thug from the streets. It's cool for Rappers but not in real life.
Most people will not say this but, "People of all skin color will look down on those that are viewed as unintelligent criminals." It is encraved into our culture to think that way. If a black man in jeans or sweats walks by I do not think gangster. But if a black man walks by wearing gold chains, baggy pants, and a chip on their shoulder, I will think ganster/thug.

Kareem, MikePhilly, and Barb From NE Phila are right.

Desperate measures call for desperate times. Although a person frisked is not the best solution to stop crime in any city, it still is an alternative to sitting back and doing nothing.

There are good people in c-ville. However, they are more bad people.

Life is a one shot deal. Make right choices and life will reward you. Nothing is easy except not doing anything at all. But doing nothing gets you nowhere. Life is not fair and is rough but you are not the only one that life treats so unkind. People of all races will treat you poorly if you let them. Thats what people do. They do this to become better/more powerful,...its human nature/survival of the fittest. Do not let anyone keep you down. White people do not keep you down, only a few interfer with your way to the top. Those types of people are obstacles and obstacles can be avoided or defeated. DO not use excuses like the white man keeps me down,...YOUR ATTITUDE TOWARDS LIFE KEEPS YOU DOWN. Be stronger than that. You are a human being with strengths and weakness. But when you say someone is keeping me from acheiving, you are showing your weakness.

Material objects such as clothing, cars, and music are not important tools to prove who you are. Do not be like the next guy and listen to the same music, wear long white t-shirts because your buddy does, or deal dope because that the only way to make money. WHO ARE YOU FOOLING. You can't be yourself if you copy what everyone else is doing.
If a group of people got together in one room and were wearing long white t-shirts with blue jeans and tan boots who also have short hair and a chip on their shoulder,...HOW WOULD YOU TELL THEM APART,...you couldn't. So are you still and individual when you dress and act like everyone else,...NO, your not!!!!!!
BE yourself and lose the overplayed image of a ganster. Its been done before.
