Rock school in; Pez Museum out

There are 56 comments on the The Morning Call story from Dec 5, 2008, titled Rock school in; Pez Museum out. In it, The Morning Call reports that:

''We don't need no education,'' sing kids on Pink Floyd's ''Another Brick in the Wall.'' But in order to perform that song in public, your kid's going to need, well, some education.

I think this is a crime. There are enough empty buildings in Easton that the School of Rock could move into and they have to force the Pez Museum out. What is wrong with people?

The article said that the PEZ museum closes every winter... At least now there is a tentant that will make use of the space. And of course with the crap-py writing in the MCALL it was hard to tell if the museum will actually reopen somewhere in the future or close for good...

As an avid collector of PEZ, I'm sorry to see the museum leave downtown Easton - it was MY only reason for going to Easton. Hopefully it opens elsewhere.

Never been to the PEZ museum, but it sounds like fun. RE empty building, yes, there's lots of them all over the country, it seems a shame. Hopefully the Pez museum can relocate elsewhere.

Believe us...we did look around all of Easton. Since we are a music program, we have to be sensitive to our neighbors because of the sound. Many of the buildings in downtown and the surrounding areas that were vacant were in close proximity to heavy residential uses which would not have been appropriate. We also had parking to be concerned with, and the school's proximity to the Pine Street Municipal garage resolved that issue, plus brings some revenue to the City. In addition, we are taking the space that is currently occupied by the Pez Museum as well as the entire floor above it, which has been vacant for quite some time. This will bring more revenue into the City of Easton in terms of the taxes we pay.

Interesting concept. Are you teaching the kids music theory and how to read music? Or is it more just about the performance and technique?

My wife also reminded me that when we were introduced to this building, the landlord told us that the Pez folks were going to be leaving; if we had any sense otherwise, we would have continued our search. It's a great building in a great part of the city...and the Purple Cow Creamery folks are thrilled!!!

Actually...the focus is on music theory and sight reading in the lessons. The performance aspect reinforces what is learned in the classroom...'oooo I didn't realize that Zeppelin song was built on an E major scale'. The concerts they put on is the payoff-for the kids, their parents and their friends!!!

positive energy indeed. welcome to town. you might want to connect with the local art scene as a networking opportunity. stop by Connexions and talk to the owners. they're at 213 Northampton St. i wish you the best. btw - the pez museum has looked to pull out of the building in the past so don't feel like you're displacing. you're adding.

Thanks...I know where you guys are located...your reaction is very similar to that which we have gotten from many business owners in Easton...positive and upbeat...its a great City!!! We hope that the school provides enough impetus to get other family friendly businesses into the City.

The Easton Musuem of Pez will surely be missed by all! We loved having them there. They were great neighbors that created a big draw for our business.
But it was also my understanding that they were leaving.
Ray and Sue from The School of Rock seem like really great people and we're looking forword to building a relationship with them. It's a fabulous idea and we wish them lots of luck!

The School Of Rock is too heavy on baby boomer, classic rock propaganda. Kids instead should be taught the Ramones, Patti Smith, The Clash, Joy Division, The Stooges, X-Ray Specs, Television, The Damned, Siouxsie and The Banshees, and more.
