Do we really need a third mall in Downey? The city council approved the plans for the construction of the Tierra Luna shopping center to be built where Downey Studios currently is. One council member applauded the idea and said this would be a "home-run." Are we a city that only cares about money and looks or are we a city who preserves our historical landmarks that made our city well-known? What's your opinion, Downey residents?

Ya, it's a good thing. More jobs. Nothing going on there right now. Unless someone has a better idea for the area.

yes it would be good because the property is currently a piece of crap. it is overgrown with weeds, aged buildings with broken windows, and a parking lot with more cracks than a crips birthday party. i honestly hope that they put it to good use

What else could they do with it? Manufacturing/high-tech jobs aren't coming back. I live near this area and the area isn't bad, much better compared to years ago when aerospace industry left. Kudos for downey! Hopefully downey won't become South Gate very soon

It's already on the way!!!!!! Why would Downey residents be happy with another mall. As stated earlier nothing bug low paying jobs!!!! And so what if the property sits vacant for why settle for a mall. Look at the corner of Firestone and Atlantic in South Gate, all those good paying jobs that have left the area that will soon be photographed with council members and city staff with gold shovels and smiling for the camera as if they provided a service to the community with low paying jobs.

Well, unless we have WWIII soon and military decides to reuse the site as manufacturing base for military equipments, no more manufacturing in Downey or anywhere in CA. Look at all former aerospace sites like burbank, and many others they're long gone. Low paying jobs are better than no jobs. I've heard Downey was the place to be 25 years ago, times change and believe me time will come for other 'nice' cities like cypress and even Irvine. They had a good shot at bringing Tesla and they almost did it but too bad that they decided last minute to relate to norcal.

Pretty close. Downey was the place to be until the early '80s. Then all the old businesses either closed or relocated.

Kaiser offered to buy it and put a Medical School there, but the corrupt City Council got a better deal for themselves (i.e., bribes) elsewhere. Think about that, a MEDICAL SCHOOL in Downey-- this would put the city on the map!
