My congratulations to reporters Puente and Manzer. It's not enough to just accept the family's bald assertion that he was a "good kid" and you have to show there are two sides to every pancake. No offense Dad, but you might want to consider a name change.

And had good manners.I was not aware of the gang ties or problems he had. But, it is not ok. That another person, took his life or any other young childs life. He was my son's friend and now my son is also hurting. As, he is sadden, that his friend is gone. People, police, probation or the system in general. They all want to say, that there are programs and ways out. But there is not a lot of them. Or they won't help everyone. As, I have had problems with my own son, in the past. And I have not been able to get any type of assistance. THE CITY OF LONG BEACH. Has told me, that he does not qualify, because he is not deep into a gang, on drugs or not under 14 yrs old. And, being, that I do have a good job. They where unable to help. As, I struggle being a single mother. Who is trying to help my son. And make sure, that this does not happen. JABARI WILL BE DEEPLY MISS. AND THAT LAUGHTER & BIG SMILE. HE WAS AN OUTSTANDING KID.

And there are always 2 sides to a story. But, this is a human's life. Let alone a child's life. These young gang members. Have worsen over the years. As, the system continues to let them back on the streets. As, I read all of the PRESS TELEGRAM stories. And it's sad, that a POLICE OFFICER said,"THAT HE IS NOT SURPRISE" of Jabari's death. This is not sending the right message. This is letting these people who had killed him or others. Think it's okay, to just take a life. Because a person/kid, makes some bad choices. Yes, the streets have there own set of rules. But, they seem to be getting more bent as the years go by.

CCT then you are a fool too! That kid was a thug and would regularly show up to campus's with a firearm. You are absolutely right that it was a young boy and he is now gone. The potential will never be realized but he had options and he chose not to take them.

Attention: BEACH CLOSURE I can only assume, that you have no children or someone, that might care for you. As, this was a young boy. NO ONE DESERVES TO HAVE THERE LIFE TAKEN FROM THEM. May the "Lord watch over you & Bless you" My prayers go out to his Family & Friends. And to anyone, who has lost a loved one.

It really saddens me to read most of these comments. Even more disturbing are the comments made by Beach Closure and people that think like him. It is so naive to think that the loss of a life is a solution to a problem. Yes the boy made some bad choices that resulted in his death, but no one needs to die in that manner no matter what choices they make. Unfortunately, parents can only do so much by way of what choices their children make. I don't know of one parent that raised their child to be a gang banger. Most, if not all, parents want the best for their children. We constantly tell them of our struggles and/or shortcomings and try to lead them in ways to avoid the mistakes we made. But there comes a time in every child's life when they make their own decisions and the peer pressure is so great that they begin to rebel against their parents' advice. I am sure that all of you with negative comments and blame were in similar situations as teenagers, but were blessed to have survived those rebellious years. If you have the answers why not share those as comments and not twist the knife in the heart of the parents and community who are already hurting by blaming them? Pray for them and provide your expert advice to change the situation since you think you know the solution. What is happening in that community affects all of us whether we live there or not. It is up to each and every one of us to make this world a better place in any way we can, especially when we see a need and believe we know a way to make the wrongs right.

As most in law enforcement will tell you, the illegal alien infestation has led to civic meltdown which fosters insecurity and hence, Gang membership. Just because the parents/voters see no problem with denigrating their children's future hopes by flooding So Cal with illegals .....doesn't mean it isn't having a devastating affect on our children. We abandoned this young man and the countless others to the embrace of illegal aliens. By the adult/voters choice to elect pols who lust for a third world future, So Cal's inner city children realize that they have sperm and egg donors but not "Parents" in the traditional American sense of the word. What else could explain the FACT that ONLY our State sees no value in our citizenship and ignores the negative impact on our children's future hopes and dreams.

Why should ANYONE be surprised that he was shot and killed. Is it right, no, but surprise should not be an emotion in play here. He was a gang member which increases the odds of him being killed violently dramatically. He was a violent criminal which also increased his demise by a violent nature. I really don't care that this particular person died, I am just thankful that no innocent person was killed and that future victims will be spared being victims from this persons criminal acts. Gangs are violent. Violent criminals are violent. He was both. I really won't lose sleep over his death. CCT wrote: And there are always 2 sides to a story. But, this is a human's life. While his death is indeed "sad", had this misguided youth lived, he might have ended up killing us, just for the Hell of it, or some innocent 7-11 clerk working a second job to support his family, or during a violent takeover robbery at one of our area restaurants that still stay open after dark. You are missing the point. What can YOU do to fix the problem? The police can only do so much. It will take the help of EVERYONE to fix the problem. What is you ranting and negative comments doing to fix the problem? We get it that you hate gang bangers and so does everyone else. But we love people and especially children that don't get to reach their potential in life. Again, if you know what to do to fix the problem DO IT and stop slinging insults and hate.

Gangs are the terrorists of California. There's no excuse for them. They have been glorified and allowed to destroy our neighborhoods. They enjoy the power they have. They are rejects with power. If we ever got serious, we could destroy them.

Hey! Did you read the one about the lady that opened a store in the East Village? What a nice story - and it has only one comment. Publish something grim like a shooting and people gobble it up. Sad.

Nope, still won't lose any sleep over this incident. I do take actions to keep my neighborhood safe. I call the police when a crime occurs and when I see suspicious people, I DON'T just sit back and not get involved. God has said what ye sow so shall ye reap. He was a gang member and a violent criminal, he reaped what he sowed. If you want to feel sad, go ahead it's a free country. Don't expect others to feel the same way. I have seen first hand the very negative impact that gangs and violent criminals inflict upon the world. I won't ever feel sorry for the bad things that happen to them because frankly they never cared what violence and hatred they have committed on others. Yeah if you actually believe the family and friends but it did turn out that most of those were actually gang members. Do innocent people get hurt sometimes? Yes they do but usually it comes out several days later that they were in a gang (the only one I don't recall being in a gang was the one on Cherry ave, the rest turned out to be in gangs).
