I think the insurance should be mandatory for farmers. Especially here in Oklahoma where our weather is already goofy as it is. Hopefully, those who don't have the insurance will have set some $$ aside for this kind of thing. Unfortunately though, I doubt that many farmers are able to do that simply because of how expensive it is to farm now.

I find this hard to believe. Every year, we hunt in Alfalfa County on wheat fields for both deer and waterfowl. We've hunted in January when the wheat is 6" tall and the temps have gotten down in the single digits. The wheat was as green and healthy as ever once it thawed out. I wonder what the difference is this time?

I'm sorry Djuan Davis you are wrong. My dad lost his entire wheat crop Easter weekend of 2006 because of the freeze. Believe me it happens. It goes dormant in the winter. When it warms up too early in January or February the wheat will come up. Any crop that is about ground and it freeze it will kill it.
