Thank you for your article. We wanted to bring you an update on this legislation.
Our office met last week with some Majority Party members on H.B. 22. In an effort to meet more needs that have been brought to our attention since the original introduction, and to overcome Majority Party opposition - a new, even more comprehensive bill is being crafted. It will be jointly introduced, under a new bill number, with Republican member Courtney Combs, from Butler County. The new bill will contain most of the same tenets as the existing bill AND address situations involving domestic violence and pets.
We have added your email to our interested party list (there is enormous public support for the legislation, which we hope will move with us to the new bill). We look forward to working with you on bringing the information to the public and the bill to passage.
P.S. Age 15 was chosen because after that age many offenders are driving and some have moved on to more serious crimes.
