MY CONDOLENCES GOES OUT TO THE FAMILIES WHO LOST SOMEONE TO THE DELAWARE.I WAS PART OF THE GROUP WHOM LOST A DEAR FRIEND AND FAMILY MEMBER TO SOME AT THE KITTITANNY CAMPGROUND ON JULY 4TH,2008.
SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT ALL THE TRAGIC INCIDENTS HAPPENING IN THE DELAWARE.THE GROUNDS WE STAYED AT WERE CALLED RIVER SIDE.WE WERE DIRECTLY BY THE RIVER WITH CLEAR ACCESS TO THE RIVER,HENCE THE NAME RIVER SIDE. THERE ARE WARNING SIGNS POSTED WITH SOME LITERATURE TO READ ON THE DANGERS OF THE RIVER.THERE ARE ALSO LIFE VESTS AVAILABLE AND READILY ACCESSIBLE FOR CAMPERS TO USE WHEN GOING INTO THE WATER. MY POINT IS THIS,YES THE WARNING SIGNS ARE THERE,SAFETY EQUIPMENT READILY AVAILABLE BUT WHO REALLY TAKES THE TIME TO READ THESE SIGNS.WE NEED TO HAVE A REAL LIVE PERSON COME AROUND AND JUST EDUCATE US ON THE DANGERS OF THE RIVER BEFORE A TRAGEDY HAPPENS,I THINK KNOWLEDGE IS CERTAINLY A STEP TOWARDS DECREASING THE NUMBER OF DEATHS EACH YEAR IN THE DELAWARE,BUT ALL THIS KNOWLEDGE IS USELESS TO THE VICTIMS AND FAMILIES AFTER THE FACT,SO THE MANAGEMENT AND STAFF OF THESE CAMPGROUNDS NEEDS TO INCORPORATE SOME WAY TO EDUCATE CAMPERS ON THE DELAWARE BY "KILLING THEM WITH KNOWLEDGE" SO TO SPEAK.

I am very familiar with the area where this person drowned. In water, if you can not stand, and can not swim, you drown. This is basic knowledge. How can the campgrounds protect themselves from people who make poor choices?

We were canoeing on the Delaware on the 5th of July. We rescued a Russian man who had too much to drink and fell from one of the diving cliffs. He landed on rock. He refused medical attention, aside from my own First Responder efforts. The campsite had no first aid supplies so the only thing I had was his Russian Vodka to cleanse his wounds. Again, this mishap could have been prevented if booze hadnt caused his misjudgement.
Can soeone please cut n paste or email me the link to the article about the Dover man dying? I have a house in Dover and grew up there.
Thank you.
