Can anyone give me more information about Children's Day? My kids are really interested in the Peter Noone concert. We are being told there is no place to park in the town so not sure what to do.
Can anyone help?

There really is no parking here (I live in Mt. Tabor) and the parking lot will be full. But, right across the street there is a huge parking lot for Foodtown and other stores, and all along Rt. 53 there are complexes where you can park and it would be easy to walk.

The parking lot on Rt. 53 is not huge, a typical Mt. Satan myth.

Mt. Satan is a lot like Jonestown, Guyana - so don't drink the Kool-Aid if you go there.

Debbie - park at the bottom of the hill in the supermarket parking lot and walk up to Mt. Tabor
I grew up there in the '60's. I was a great place to be a kid...

I'm not sure of the name of the market - it was Dickerson's back in the day. Food Fair or something like that. Anyway park there and walk up to the parade. It is the BEST! My best friend was Children's Day Queen back in 1970.

I just went back on Saturday with my brother and my folks up from Florida. We used to live on Morris Avenue. If any one lived there in the '60's or '70's and remembers the Nelsons, the Stannards, the Hengevelds, the Van Campens, the Mc Nairs, etc. please leave a memo here.

I remember the Stannards (Dave) and the Hengevelds (Chris). We lived at the top of St Johns Avenue for years.

I grew up in Tabor and still live here. Great place, best ever.

Mt. Tabor is big fraud. The camp meeting association up there stole the identity of an extinct Methodist Episcopal organization and used it to further what appears to be a long-running criminal operation.

We lived in Glacier Hills for years and we always knew something was wrong with those hicks up there in Tabor.

Dont let them fool you with their myths and lies.

BTW, back in the 1990s the school bus from Mount Tabor to the junior and senior high schools was always called "The Retarded Bus" by the kids from other areas of town. A lot of the kids on the bus from Mount Tabor just didn't act normal - they were bizarre, or strange, or weird. Something was not right with many of them.

I guess their children's day is coming up, based on the original post in this string.
Parking is difficult, you need a ticket, and you should be wearing a purple robe and black Nike sneakers with a white swoosh.
If they try to stop you from parking, just tell them you're a friend of Marshall Applewhite. That should work.

There are many names I could call you, however, there have been many doctors, lawyers, teachers, accountants, stock brokers, nurses and more that have come out of Tabor. Yes, there are a lot of people who do not understand the neighborhood but that's because they don't know what it's like to live in a place where people really care about their town, neighbors and friends. Tabor is all that and so much more. If people from Tabor are so stupid as you say, then why have they scored above and beyond all the other elementary schools in Parsippany and in surrounding towns on the NJASK test. Last year I believe they were the only school in the state who had 100% proficiency on the test. If you don't like us, then just leave us alone!!! PS I'm Catholic!!!!

you don't need a ticket to park up here, you just need a reason to be here!!

Not sure what happened to Jim Jones in his pathetic life but doesn't make sense to take it out on the wonderful community of Mt. Tabor. There are people of all backgrounds that have lived there - people are good neighbors and there is a real sense of community there. Don't be a hater, Jim - sounds like you are just a big envious that there are NICE people in Mt. Tabor - maybe you and your attitude just wouldn't fit in??

OK, Jim lives in what we adults like to call "Jim's Land". Just forget him. Children's Day is the first Saturday of every August. The first parade starts at 1:15 PM. Parking on the parade routes pretty much is cut off an hour prior to the parade starting. The second parade starts approximtately 6:30 PM. This is for the award winners and the ambulance/fire department trucks etc. Concert is in the field adjacent to the Country Club directly after the parade ends. I suggest bringing a chair. You would be best off parking at the Foodtown parking lot and walking up the hill for the events. Parking on the hill is pretty limited.

I heard from a local source in Tabor that a performer at their "concert...in the field adjacent to the Country Club" was stone-cold drunk.

I also heard drinking is a big problem in Tabor and that's why they did away with the firemen's beer garden. The historical society didn't like the drinking in public, especially on Children's Day.

I'm pretty sure jim jones ack-tually lived in Mount Tabor. One day I saw him walking along past the basketball courts when he got beaned by one of Edwin S's famous errant tee shots. At which point, after regaining his already tenuous composure, walked across the baseball diamond, climbed a tree and began eating pine bark. I think he supposed it would help somehow. He then walked over to a ball washer and began yelling at it when, after putting in a dollar, he failed to retrieve his Mr. Pibb. Don't give me away, Jim!

W R, it looks like your left Mt. Tabor cult and moved to Ohio. Are you starting branch of the cult out there? Do the followers have to wear black Nike sneakers and purple robes? Enjoy the Kool-Aid!
