I just saw mention of Judge James in an earlier blog about Lisa Clark. Anyone know anything about him? Good? Bad?

I've personally never had to deal with him, because I have never done anything criminal. It seems everytime I have had to go to court for something(molestation trial and divorce) I always have Emerson.
I know from what I have been told that Judge James is a good Judge and knows his stuff.

I've met Judge James and he is really smart and very fair. I think he is one of Douglasville's best people because he has to deal with a lot of bad stuff and bad people, but just talking to him as a person, he is just really nice.
Judge Emerson is o.k. too but I would choose Judge James if there was a choice.

The most honest judge in the state maybe the country. He is one of the few judges that realize they are human. He sees all sides of the story. A great man.

He is known in the jail as the "hanging judge" cuz he'll hang your arse in a minute with no questions asked. I've had dealings with him as judge and my lawyer even went as far as to say that we would be better off with a different judge. James usually sides with the DA on the cases and as far as I can see he's done the same in our case too.

No it's not me going before him but someone I know. But he doesn't even give them a chance to plead their side of the case from what I've seen.

I'll agree that the lawyer is a p.o.s too but money don't grow on trees to get another one

So we are agreed that is the lawyers fault and not Judge James. Your "friend" needs to stand up in front of Judge James and tell him his lawyer is incompetent and be able to articulate [explain] why. Thus we remove the blame from Judge James, Et, Al, and focus on the guilt of the accused or the lack of competence of their lawyer.

you are not supposed to thank him. If you "won" then he did his job explaining the LAW to the jury who decides the guil or innocence. What was your case and how did he try to swade the verdict? Quote your "no thanks to him"?

I wouldn't expect a judge to be popular. They are always going to have a loser at one end and a winner at the other. They aren't supposed to make it easy either. But males have a harder time in child support and custody cases because of the long history of dead-beat dads. So if there is bias, it is there due to history, not just due to one person's opinion. All a judge can do is study law and legal issues as much as possible and come into court being the most knowledgable about the legal system. All judges make mistakes, all do good things too. If you find yourself in court, you are already part of an issue that can't be resolved elsewhere and we, the people, have appointed or elected someone to help make an informed decision in each case.
If a judge gives the jury the correct instructions, the jury takes over and does a good job of making the best decision. Note that I didn't say the "right" decision, but the "best decision, given the evidence." I would think that a judge would get pretty tired of hearing a lot of the same old excuses, but I wouldn't know that from any personal experience.

Douglas needs a dedicated family court. Judge James hears as much of a case as he wants then sends the two sides away to come back another day. This costs parents' money and prolongs the agony of a divorce or custody dispute. The ones who suffer most by the continuous fighting are the children. Judge James needs to move more swiftly and punish lawyers who stall and stonewall in his court. If he's so smart and knows who's telling the truth, then why not make a ruling? Why keep sending parents away? The only one's who win in a divorce are the lawyers who make money every time Judge James sends them to write useless briefs. Get a Family Court for Douglas County that works closely with the Juvenile courts. If you want a judge to see how their ruling impacts a child's life, then MAKE them do a "tour" in Juvenile court ...you'll see the fruits of your labor sitting there. Judge James doesn't make decisions. He waits until one side runs out of money, then makes the lawyers give him a compromise. The parent who has the most vacation days to sit in court all day and never have their case heard, wins. The parent with the most money wins. And win or lose the judge gets paid and the lawyers get paid.
