The Obama administration and some in Congress have been floating this idea around for awhile.
With all the Government spending and a lack of funding this may happen much sooner than you think. This may soon be a reality.

This would cost business more, as the current mileage allowance for business miles (currently 55.5 cents per mile, I think) would need to increase, too.

That means people like me will have to pay more for everything I buy as well as tax on my cars mileage. What if I have two cars? This whole idea is making me run hot.

Look at all these people who want something for nothing. Regardless of the fact that this article is BS, even if it were true don't you think it would make sense for those who use a something to have to pay for it? If you use a copy machine at a Kinkos do you pay per copy? In georgia they just got rid of yearly ad valorum tax on cars...aren't people who have cars the ones who use the roads? Republicans are the true entitlement class, they just choose to pretend it is the other way around.

You're going to have a big surprise when you get your car tag bill next year. You might want to do a little research on the ad valorum tax.

Because of the high gas mileage the newer cars now get the government is not getting as much money in taxes due o people buying less gasoline. With cars coming out each year with better and better gas mileage gas taxes will continue to drop. The only logical way to tax as far as the government is concerned is by your driving mileage.
BTW what kind of dumb statement is that Republicans are the entitlement class? Far more Democrats on welfare and getting government aid. REMEMBER? Republicans are supposed to be rich.

If you people think that this tax the mileage thing is just a joke think twice. RunningBear is correct about the less fuel we burn the less taxes the government gets. Fuel economy is also driving up the prices of gasoline as refineries are closing down due to the need for less gasoline. The less gasoline the energy companies sell the more they must charge for their gasoline.

Have you folks seen where states like California, the land of fruit and nuts wants to impose an "exit tax" on those who are fleeing the state due to the high taxes, illegal aliens and their anchor babies draining the system, etc. The governments thinking is that since you lived here and took advantage of the schools for yourself and your kids that you are still responsible for the debt the state has incurred and leaving it will not relieve your responsiblity. Seems they fail to take into consideration the damn taxes these folks had paid all the years they were there. Just another example of what happens when you allow the far left, liberals in the Democratic party to take control of thinks at various levels of government.

Calf. is broke. It can't pay off it's retirement pensions or fund its programs. It is over taxed and over regulated by a bunch of liberal kooks. The heavy tax bearing business's are leaving the state and that is why the state wants to punish and get more money from them as they leave.

I read somewhere recently (I think there's a post around here somewhere, too) about the unfunded liabilities for social security, pensions and others things being something like $72 TRILLION. Being that the government is on a cash basis, future liabilities aren't shown on a balance sheet like they would be under the accruals basis of accounting (as businesses use). Wonder where that money is going to come from or how much the benefits will be limited...

You are correct and I have wondered just what is going to happen. I heard it was 82 trillion but what the heck is 10 trillion dollars here or there. I read that there isn't 82 trillion dollars in the whole world. Makes one wonder just what keeps things going.
Benefits being limited. What benefits? There will be none as there will be no money.
I think the only reason we are still able to function is that people still have faith that our money is still good and we keep transferring this money to one another believing that it still and does work. When people suddenly realize it is worthless and want something else that is tangible then all hell will break loose. You will be able to use money for toilet paper.
That is just my opinion of course. It is such a scary subject that you will never see such an article or hear anybody talk about it.
