Chain Pharmacy vs. Mom and Pops Pharmacy

I have had to take meds my entire life for a couple chronic health problems (asthma and diabetes). I have come to realize that I would much rather pay a little more (which is not always the case) and go to a small pharmacy like Medicine Shoppe or Wyatt's Pharmacy than to ever step foot in a CVS or Walgreens again. I know this might not matter to those of you who never have to go, or only have to go on rare occassions, but to those who have to take routine meds, it is a big deal. The small "mom and pop" stores are kinder, they care and they are 15 times FASTER. I haven't noticed a price differnce either, but I know sometimes people think they are more expensive and even if they were, I would be willing to endure that. The only advantage I can think of for big name pharmacies is that Publix does give free anitbiotics. And Publix is usually OK but usually slammed.

My wife is on 9 different meds for her health issues, and after 3 years of trying various places, I found Kroger to be the best for cost, efficiency, customer service, and so forth.

My wife has become well acquainted with a few of the people that works at our favorite Kroger pharmacy, and they will spend the time to help explain a change in medication, to listen to concerns, or answer questions my wife has.

I fully recommend them for anyone seeking a good pharmacy.

I go to rite aid. Reason being is they are super fast. I went to walmart (huge mistake). They told me to come back in 3 hrs. Once I went to the walgreens on Hwy 5, and they told me to come back the next day. I too have to take several meds for health issues. I normally try to get a refill when I am down to 3 pills, but the next day. That's crazy.
I have to admit that I have never tried the medicine shoppe or Wyatts. I guess because I am like so many others, and go to a place closer to home.
I think I went once to CVS on Chapel Hill Rd.

cvs wants you to call and order a week in advance so they can walk around 4 days doing nothing. They are the worlds WORST in filling prescs while you wait. How long sdoes it take to put 30 pills in a bottle and put the damn lid on it?When you are sick as hell, the last thing you want to do is sit at some store and wait an hour for the presc to be filled.

This has been posted before but worth repeating.

It is SO stupid that grocery store pharmacies make you wait hours or days to get YOUR rx. They want you to go shop in the store while they sit back there and EAT, do their HAIR, talk on the phone, ect. Kroger and Publix are TERRIBLE about making folks wait. Never saw anything like it. Kroger has tons of pharmacist at some stores, and none of them can get out a script under an hour, sometimes 4 hours, or longer?????????? Hospital Drive has issues.

Yea, the Publix anti's are free, when you can get them! The pharmacist hoards them like they are gold. And again, they make you come back. "We are just too busy today." No matter what day you go. But when you look back there, they are not doing anything but sitting on a chair. Go watch and see for yourself. How much can you ladies EAT?

Grocery stores want to verify too many rx's. Call the insurance company, or call the dr. ugh!

Grocery chains should stay out of the drug biz. They are not owed by the grocery or drug stores they plump down inside of, they are independent companies renting space.

If you have a complaint, there is NO ONE to complain too! Keep that in mind.

The fly by night workers, and pharmacist read your files, make nasty notes about you and gossip! I can't stand them. Beware, and try some where else where they only have medicines.

I feel sorry for myself being a senior, and my grandson who was very sick always trying to get our medicines. Kroger and Publix gave him hell about his medicine every week, and the workers and pharmacist are so rude. Not all of them, but most. I would never go there again.

And yes this is true, and no, I do not work or have any association with any independent pharmacy. I am telling you like it is. I do not know how grocery store pharmacies stay in business.

The Apothecary lady is nuts, nuff said. The guy is nice, but always stressed. Medicine Shop is like a breath of fresh air. Nice, fast, and they keep their mouth shut. They don't gossip about you when you come in or leave, they are not NOSEY. They are a little pricey, but when I want my medicine, I want it now, not days or hours later. Ya hear Kroger and Publix! And by the time you spend the extra money in the grocery isles, you will spend more in the long run. It is a marketing trick that I can live without. Sorry for typos. Hands are hurting today.

Medicine Shoppe,is the best in customer service and knowledge..
I wouldn't go back to Kroger on a bet, they act like they need medication..They could lapse in a coma if they were any slower...you have to wait and wait..If you have a few hours to wait for a script,Kroger is the place to go..

There's more than one Kroger in the Douglasville area.

The one on Highway 5 and Stewart Mill has never given me any proble, longest I had to wait on a script for my wife was like 15 minutes, and they were busy.

It takes a min. to verify ins. You can verify online now. We are past the days of calling to talk to a human, and sitting on hold for 20 mins.
There is zero excuses for any pharmacy to tell someone to come back the next day, when you can clearly look around at the employees just standing around and cutting up. At walmart they were all sitting, talking and eating and had the nerve to say it would take 3 hrs. I was paying with CASH, so no need to verify ANY ins.

Hwy 5 was always fast when I use to go there as well. Hospital Dr. on the other hand, is a different story. You can literally walk up to that window and they are not doing a thing. All of them standing around. They say to come back in an hr. If they were slammed with prescriptions, they wouldn't just be standing there twiddling their thumbs.
When I would go to rite aid, they could have a long line of people there. The drive thru could also have 5 cars in line, but never have I waited over 30 mins. to get my prescriptions filled. I went to the one on Hwy 5 by Food depot.

I thankful that Kasier has opened in Douglasville. I always got my meds at Rite Aid , Hwy and never had any problem but Kasier is cheaper for me.

It takes forever at CVS, they say 15 minutes if you want to wait, but it always take at least 40, and there is always a whole crap load of people waiting in line. Hometown pharmacies have to verify insurance too and do everything the same way they just get it done a whole lot faster (Medicine Shoppe is known for getting you in and out in 5 minutes and always being accurate) and they actually serve more customers a day, but when you walk into their store you wont see all the customers they have because they have already gotten them in and out. Another thing, going back to the accurate thing, a lot of doctors are starting to refuse to call in meds and refils to CVS and Walgreens because they mess them up so often, creating a dangerous problem.

The Medicine Shoppe people are so good. I thank the lord everyday for them being good to me and my family. I just can't do the commercial drug business anymore in the stores and grocery stores. Too old and tired to wait and come back for no reason. The tech's and pharmacist do not want to really help you, or for that matter, they do not want to be there. They act like they hate their jobs and hassle you over your own rx. Just fill the dang thing and shut up already. lol

There is a place called D&B over off of HWY 5 that I use for one medication that is a lot cheaper there than anywhere else. I use Walgreens on 92 off of Fairburn and Lee road for everything else. I know and trust Don the Pharmacist there. Before he was there he was across the road at Eckerd/Rite Aid and was great. For me, I know he is paying attention and will make sure my medications are correct. So it is more about trusting and knowing my pharmacist than the actual pharmacy itself

I absolutely hate WALGREENS. I am a 54 year old man, a christian and good man. In all my 54 years I can recall needing narcotic pain medication one time and that was when I was 21 and had my appendix removed, until last month when I was involved in a car accident and fractured my spine. I was given pain medication prescription after leaving the hospital and they told me upon discharge, don't take this to Walgreens, they will assume you are a drug dealer and treat you accordingly. The nurse was laughing, and I was laughing at it, because that is ridiculous. I had a legit medical problem. It was about 2 a.m. when I got to leave the hospital and Walgreens was one of the few pharmacies open. The nurse had said get it filled immeidatley because after some of the numbing shots wore off later on, it would be hurting really bad. SO I ended up at Walgreens. They did treat me just as she said they would, I guess becuase it was a narcotic prescrition. It didn't bother me on one hand, as they can judge me all they want, but they don't know me. If I get two pain pill prescriptions filled in my entire life, after 54 years, I am not ashamed of that. On the other hand it did bother me, because I bet they treat everyone that way and I know it has to get to some people. So I am telling my friends over coffee about it a few weeks later and they all say they have been treated this way at Walgreens at some point, one of the ladies was very elderly and very ill with cancer and going through an enourmous amount of pain and they treated HER that way? Ridiculous! I will stick to the Medicine Shoppe from now on, that is where I get my blood pressure meds on a regular basis anyway.

I would like to throw myself into the discussion for best pharmacy in town. The wait at my pharmacy (Village Pharmacy) is usually less than 10 minutes, and I treat my patients like family. I have worked for a big chain before and know that upper management does not care about you, the patient. I take the extra time to educate my patients on the proper/best use of their medications and intervene with physicians if they have prescribed something that could harm my patients.....and I agree with most of the people here....Medicine Shoppe is a great pharmacy.
