This is pretty much the same story as "10 Men went to dinner" (sorry no ladies were invited), sent to me by a friend with thanks to Dr. Kamerschen of UGa:

----
People don't understand socialism from the big numbers, but this hits home:

Simple Math and Taxes:

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to \$100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes.
It would go something like this…

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay \$1.
The sixth would pay \$3.
The seventh would pay \$7.
The eighth would pay \$12.
The ninth would pay \$18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay \$59.

So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank beer in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the bar owner threw them a curve. "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by \$20.

Drinks for the ten now just cost \$80. The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes, so the first four men were unaffected.
They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the \$20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share'?

They realized that \$20 divided by six is \$3.33. But, if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay. And so…

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid \$2 instead of \$3 (33% savings).
The seventh now paid \$5 instead of \$7 (28% savings).
The eighth now paid \$9 instead of \$12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid \$14 instead of \$18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid \$50 instead of \$59 (15% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And, the first four continued to drink for free. But, once outside the bar, the men began to compare their savings.

"I only got a dollar out of the \$20," declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man, "but he got \$9!"

"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got nine times more than I!"

"That's true!!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get \$9 back when I got only \$2? The wealthy get all the breaks!"

"Wait a minute." yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!"

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But, when it came time to pay the bill,
they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!"

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction.

Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

David R. Kamerschen, Ph.D.
Professor of Economics
University of Georgia

For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Winston Churchill

This will be interesting to see how some of you "argue" this, but the unregistered won't get a response...

And, as I've said many times,

Q. What do you call a tax reduction for someone that doesn't pay any taxes?

A. Wealth redistribution.

That is interesting and a good read. As a bartender, everyone pays the same price for the beer or no beer.

Good parable, though.

A little boy goes to his dad and asks, "What is politics?"

Dad says, "Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I'm the breadwinner of the family, so let's call me capitalism. Your Mom, she's the administrator of the money, so we'll call her the Government. We're here to take care of your needs, so we'll call you the people. The nanny, we'll consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we'll call him the Future. Now, think about that and see if that makes sense,"

Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper. So the little boy goes to his parents' room and finds his mother sound asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny's room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed. The next morning, the little boy says to his father, "Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now."

The father says, "Good son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about."

The little boy replies, "Well, while Capitalism is screwing the Working Class, the Government is sound asleep, the People are being ignored and the Future is in deep shite."

The story fails to mention what happens the next night.

A bunch of Wall Street executives go into the bar and have a drunken party. They destroy the place. They look at the bartender and say "put it on the taxpayers tab".

----------
Truly, this juvenile Strawman argument is pathetic. Just another stinking nugget of shite from the Republican propoganda machine. Fodder for the simple-minded who get their politics from Chain-emails and Facebook.

Unfortunately, the poster is too thick-skulled to see that it illustrates nothing in the real world.

Here's the better analogy:

The pizza is divided into 100 slices. 1 guy comes along and takes 83 slices, the next 9 take 10 slices, and then the other 90 split the 8 slices.

Really, this whole "10 Men" thing is hopelessly flawed on so many levels.

As a parable for America, it would be more accurate to have one go to a secretive, private club, where he drinks rare single malt off the breasts of a virgin; the next goes to a high class bar where he has a martini (shaken, not stirred); the next has a glass of respectable wine at a nice bar; the next has an imported beer; the next couple of guys domestic beer; the next couple stay at home and drink tap water; and the last drinks from a water fountain in the park before trying to find a homeless shelter with an open bed for the night.

Of course, for the Clueless and Uneducated, like the poster of this vomita, Bill in D'Ville, no explanation is possible.

It's simply mind-boggling that somebody could be so arrogant and ignorant as to even put up something so insanely inaccurate, and then proceed to insult every other reader here.

And he likes to call the other posters here "clueless and uneducated". He's really not that intelligent, just full of himself.

It makes me laugh when someone posts that there's so many things wrong with a post, yet they can't offer up specifics. Typical of the clueless and uneducated...like a little dog barking at the wind...

---
An uneducated and clueless voter is a dangerous thing. They tend to vote Liberal…

“I don’t want someone who doesn’t pay ANY federal income taxes voting to determine how much I pay.”

"I'm not going to let half the country that doesn't pay income taxes be burdened by the other half that doesn't pay their fair share."

Wizard of ID Guard:“Shouldn’t voters have to pass an intelligence test?”
Wizard:“You don’t have to be intelligent to vote.”
Guard:“What if there are more stupid people than intelligent people?”
Wizard:“Then the democrat wins.”

Wealth envy is an ugly thing. They have it. You don't.

Somebody else got all the breaks. You didn't.

They got an education. You didn't.

They worked their a\$\$es off, including long hours and weekends. You didn't.

They took risks, including investing their own money if necessary, to build a business. You didn't.

"Shared prosperity" = Socialism...

“If you’re not a liberal at 20, you have no heart, and if you’re not a conservative at 40, you have no head.” Winston Churchill

Nothing pointed out? You're a moron.

What is BEER in your parable? The wealth of the land? All 10 men share in it equally? Yeah, right. Everybody drank the same amount?

What is "the bill" in your parable? Taxes? So everyone should pay the same amount, regardless of how much they make? A man that makes a million should pay x dollars and the man who makes minimum should pay exactly the same?

How did one man become much more wealthy than the others? Did he benefit more from the bar along the way?

This whole parable is nothing more than a fairy-tale for Neal Boortz Troglodytes. Too simple-minded to actually look at the real world.

It's just math Republicans do to make themselves feel better.

As long as we're talking cartoons - in the immortal words of Bugs Bunny - "What a maroon!".

I think Bill from wherever is a blow hard. Someone that is rich / wealthy isn't going to be on Topix spouting off on the virtues of the wealthy. Let me guess you are worried about capital gains on your massive wealth. I call bull because you are probably no better off than the rest. Dream on my rich fellow Topix poster.

OH MY GOD! THIS PLACE IS TOO FUNNY!!!

Bill in D'ville has shown us a pathetically amusing little story trying to prove SOME kind of bizarre point. The story is attributed to:

"David R. Kamerschen, Ph.D.
Professor of Economics
University of Georgia"

Oddly enough the REAL David R. Kamerschen expressly denies having written it, and absolutely wants NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!! Don't believe me? See the link below:

http://davidk.myweb.uga.edu/
David R Kamerschen wrote:
Contrary to Internet folklore, Dr. Kamerschen is NOT the author of "Tax Cuts: A Simple Lesson in Economics" or “Bar Stool Economics” or anything similar to that. Additionally, he does NOT know who wrote it and he has no opinion on its merits.
I'd call this myth "busted".

Bill in D'vill - This is just hilarious! Got any more BS to spread around?
