We had to push back. Wanted to open for labor day, but don't think it's going to happen at this point. I'll keep everyone posted as soon as a date is set in stone.

Just what we need another chain-restaurant.

The sheep in Douglasville will line up for a corporate-kitchen place that will serve unimaginative swill designed to please a focus group in another state. Not to mention the cookie-cutter atmosphere & decor.

Give us more of that lowest common denominator food!!!

If you do not like the damn food do not eat there. I do not need you or anyone else making my decision on where to eat or what to eat. If you do not like "chain restaurants" open your own place with food you think folks will like in this area. I for one appreciate any and all eating places that open and take the chance to make it, especially in this economy. I wish Shane's the best and great success. I for one will eat there and enjoy every bite.

You have to admit that all the gushing over opening a Shane's in Douglasville is somewhat silly.

It is not like there are no other BBQ places in Douglas County:

Hudson's
Williamson Bros.
Wallace
S'more
Hog Wild
Iron Horse
Landmark Cafe
- plus others

I just came back from eating at a Shane's. While the food was good, it was nothing special. Nothing that a dozen other places could serve and most would have better service (Shane's actually has none) and Shane's did in fact have a "cookie cutter decor".

Some folks do not care about the service or the looks of the place - only the food is important. I can understand that and have chosen to eat at restaurants that have outstanding food and terrible looks. In the case of Shane's, the food is acceptable - not outstanding. It is certainly nothing worth getting excited about.

Good luck "Shane"; two other corporate BBQ places did not work in Douglasville (Sonny's and Smokey Bones) so the track record is not good.

Note: I will admit that Williamson Bros. is part of a family owned three location business and that Wallace is actually located a few hundred feet from the boarder in Cobb county. However, IMO the food at either place is better than at a Shane's.

PLEASE, Please, make sure everything is served FRESH COOKED and HOT. Other location sometime re-drop fries and warm up sitting food...YUK

The Best BBQ in DC by far is Turners off Thornton Rd. BUT Shanes is good and the ribs are fine.

Like the cobblers too.

I will go eat there frequently for sure.

We are so excited about coming to town! For those that don't know, the "original" Shane's is located in rural McDonough, Ga. It's a very small chain with less than 10 corporate employees. To me, great food and service is something you have to be passionate about. The very reason I'm in this business is because I've eaten at too many "average" restaurants that serve mediocre food and have indifferent staff. Everything is prepared from scratch, just like our original location. Our decor is a little more upscale, because I want it to be a place that's clean and neat-something your wife will appreciate, and we'll get her hooked on our barbecue while we're at it. Give us a chance to "Wow" you, and we will!

I'm sorry but I have tried all of the BBQ places you mentioned above and now do it for me. I may be weird but I loved Sonny's. Their hot sauce was great. I liked the constance and the value. I have eaten at Shane's before in Newnan and Carrollton. I loved the Newnan location. Food was hot and really good. So I may be a nut for liking chain BBQ but I promise Shane I'll see you when you open.

There are 40 locations in Georgia.
Shane wrote:

I agree. My experience at the location in Carrollton has neither. There is no "service" other than they bring your order out. You order at a counter, get your own drinks, and buss your table when you are done. The food is nothing special and I would bet that each location tastes exactly the same, as it probably all originates at the same warehouse.

Carrollton has a "decor" that I would describe as unimaginative and contrived. It appears to be right out of a corporate-mandated catalog. I hope yours is better.
Shane wrote:

You will really have to improve on the experience that the Carrollton location has to "Wow" me.

Hey, I want as many locally owned and operated businesses as possible in Douglasville. I would love for every person with a desire to offer great food and great service to have the opportunity to open and operate a successful restaurant. If great food and great service are your primary goals then paying big money for a corporate marketing system should not be a concern. The only problem is the sheep - they like chain restaurants and will not try a place they have not heard of.

The original location was a leap of faith by Shane Thompson. He got a location, set up a menu and opened the doors. Then he decided to get into selling franchises rather than BBQ. Go to the corporate Shane's Rib Shack website and see how they market owning a Shane's on nearly every page - what is the focus of the company? Selling great food or franchises?

Best of luck to you "Shane". I hope that the corporate mentality of most franchise operations does not limit your ability to provide the experience you want for your customers. I also hope that they franchise fee is less than your take home pay.
