I have been having problems with slow internet speeds and have complained to AT&T with no results except blaming everything but God.
They claim that even when my speed drops to almost half of what I am supposed to get that is normal.
My DSL speed drops in the afternoon and especially at night to a point that I can't get online at times. You can go online and run the AT&T speed test to see what your speed is.
Anyone else out there having problems with Good old Bellsouth? I am getting feed up with their B.S.
How good is Comcast?

I'm on ATT/Bellsouth and haven't had any issues, either when I lived in D'ville or where I live now.

I wonder if it might be PC related?

I sat there while talking to them and watched my dsl speed go from 82mbps to 129mbps in a matter of minutes. Yesterday it was 150mbps download. Later in the evening it was 81mbps. You can check your speed and see if you are getting what you pay for.

I have noticed issues with my connection. Disappears on and off periodically for short bursts of time.

I work from home and am online all day, so I know immediately if there are any issues with my DSL.
I have had many issues, including very slow response and frequent outages. There was a period of time from August to November when I was calling at least once a month to report a problem. It got to the point where I would tell the tech to look up what they did last month to fix the problem and do it again.
The quality of your DSL service largely depends on where you live relative to the ATT equipment. I am way down in South Douglas county where the max speed available to me is only 3MB. Higher DSL speeds and products like ATT U-verse are not available.
I wouldn't trust the ATT website to determine your speed. During one of my incidents the tech asked me to check my speed with the ATT site - the speed came back much FASTER than what my service provides. I would suggest you go to http://www.speedtest.net/ for a more objective reading.
I choose not to do business with Comcast.

Since AT&T has gone up to $46.00 te can stick their service.I have tried to reason with these people.I wouldn't pay 46.00 dollar to bed George Clooney. My neighbors have AT&T and don't pay anywhere near that.I will piggy back off my neighbor.. I am screwing them instead of getting screwed.
They are thieves, and now I am!!!These corporations, like Direct etc, will be out of luck people are going to netflix, hulu, for pennies a month.

I don't have a I-Phone or anything facncy one PC and $46.00 is out f the quesdtion.

Yes, I know what you speak. I also work at home and am online all day. When I lived near Tributary, when they first broke ground, I eventually had to quit a pretty decent job working online because of the outages. Never, ever again will I have DSL.

Comcast has been my ISP of choice since then. I have not had too many problems with them for around 10 years.

It could be something is running in the background that you are unaware of. When my virus protector is running a scheduled full scan, I am really slow.

I know how annoying it is, though. I am not a patient person when it comes to the internet!

DSL works a LOT better if it comes in on adedicated line instead of piggybacking on your telephone line. What annoys me the most is that my upload speed is below .5.

No, I have nothing running in the background. My antivirus is on which AT&T said was normal as it does slow down my speed but they wanted me to leave the antivirus on while testing. They know that my sped is slow and then jumps way up then goes way down. I have checked my dsl filters and wiring but using other speed test on the net shows that BellSouth is terrible. I come up with a poor ping time and all speeds are poor. In fact BellSouth has one of the worst dsl speed records with consumers on most of the speed test sites. If they don't boost my speed I'm going to try Comcast.

I agree. It sounds like AT&T. I thought about switching to them but was hesitant until I heard what others are saying.

I totally recommend Comcast. Some companies I have interviewed with have "pinged" me and said I had great speeds. This is just your average hard-working PC I am on, 3 GB RAM, XP, so nothing fancy on this end.

Good luck! Comcast has some GREAT deals right now --$99 for the bundle -- Internet, phone, TV. My mom just got this deal (12 months).

Are you kidding me. EVEYONE I KNOW HAS TROUBLE WITH SLOW AT&T INTERNET!!!
Don't bother to call them, they will just lie to get you off the phone and any promises they make are NEVER FULLFILLED. This is either the most incompetent company in the world or the biggest scam.

I have a Comcast line and except for occasional outages, which don't occur more than about twice a year, Comcast is very good in my neighborhood. I am paying for Xfinity, whatever that is, and my download speed is 57.61Mbps, My upload speed is 11.64 Mbps and the Ping is 10ms. These figures are according to www.speedtest.net .

Also, I ran this speed test while my wife is on the other side of the house watching Netflix. I don't think Comcast can be beat for Internet speed. Their most recent fiber optic additions and the use of Docsis 3.0 cable modems make their service quite useful and usually speedy.

There are times on Friday nights when I do notice a little bit of lag on some sites, probably because so many people are coming home from work and hop on the net around 7 p.m. but overall we have all the speed we need. When the entire Internet slows down, we can tell it, but I don't think it is Comcast causing it. For example, if you visit the AJC website at noon to catch up on local news while you are having lunch, it can sometimes lag a little.

Comcast can be annoying if things don't work right and the person you talk to doesn't have a brain, but overall they are superior to anything else we've found. My friends who have AT&T are not all that happy with them but they put up with them.
