Not Understanding wrote: Hey if our judges would stop locking people up for not doing community service then the jails would be a little less crowded. I hear about persons on probation all the time being jailed for 10- 30 days for failing to do the required community service. I am all for holding people accountable for their actions but wouldn't this make more sense?? Just keep the violators on probation until their community service has been completed. While they are on probation they have to continue to pay probation fees which is what the city/county wants anyway. It's all about the money. I was told that Douglasville City has to pay the county to house their inmates so the city charges the inmates $40 a day. When they get out of jail, this amount is added to their fine. Does anyone know if this is true? I think jailing them for not doing the community service is wasting room in our already crowded jails. Or maybe they should be allowed to convert their community service to a larger fine. I sat with a friend in Judge Rollins court one day, NO ONE walks away with just a fine, they all get community service. There was a gentleman in there for a seatbelt violation and he got two days of community service. If you run a stop sign, you get community service. EVERYONE that went in front of the judge that day got a fine (which i understand) and community service (I don't understand). I hear that Judge Rollins owns part of the company (probation office) that he sends his people to for probation. I have someone checking into it. This would make sence. Judge Rollins gets a cut out of all the money that office collects. I wonder if they ever have to work on his property on Campbellton St. Maybe someone should check into that.

My assumption is if you get a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt, you can just pay it. If you choose to take it before a judge, it is his option to reduce the fine or remove points and make you jump through whatever hoops he sees legally fit. Judge Rollins has, in my experience, been more than fair in practicing his judicial decision making. What's your beef with the Judge? There's got to be something personal here.

Nothing personal at all. I've never had to stand before him. It just seems strange to me that EVERYONE gets community service. The day I sat in his courtroom and watched, a lot of the people there were in trouble for running a stop sign. Can you just pay that fine too, because there were a lot of people there for that. I have no beef with the judge. I just think if we are going to jail people for 10 -30 days for not doing community service then we should not sit around and gripe about the jail being over crowded. I think they should just continue to sit on probation until they do the work.

I think they should just continue to sit on probation until they do the work. Fair enough. I would think the threat of jail time would be sufficient to entice people to perform their community service. I suppose they could be put in cuffs, taken to a room, changed into orange outfits and taken straight out to the highway for clean-up duty. That would be better than taking up room in jail. As for every person getting community service, I can't speak to that at all. I would guess its a trade off for points or lesser fine unless many of these people are repeat offenders.

Private probation, what a business!!!! You put everyone that enter's your courtroom on 2yr's at 120 a month, pay a bit to run the business, pocket the rest....

Oh and don't forget the drug test fee's and probationer fee's and 100 other unnamed fee's, drug test fee's even for those that are not there on a drug conviction, unbelieveable!!!No wonder we need a new jail, get on probation in this county and the fee's alone will keep someone going back and forth to the jail, to the same judge's and back through the same probation office!!!Now that's getting paid!!!!

It is located on Cherokee Blvd off Fairburn Rd. Apparently this is the office you report to if you go in Judge Rollins' courtroom. I'll say again, I don't have a problem with this judge, I just wonder why everyone gets community service and probation. Refer to my earlier post.

Everyone keeps saying "JAIL". It's not just a jail. Sheriff Miller, Enos and Roscoe are also getting a brand new, cushy H.Q. out of this.$150 million for a jail is absolutely nuts. Perhaps our Sheriff could do his job and balance his budget a little better.
