This was in the Texarkana Gazette. I thought I would post it on here before they removed it from thier website like they did Joe Kilgore`s letter a week or two ago.

I thought I posted this before.
Letter to the Editor, Texarkana Gazette

Clinton visit disrupted education
Published: 02/13/2008

TO THE EDITOR:

I am upset about the way Bill Clinton was allowed to come to Arkansas High School and upset the schedule for all the students. My child was in ninth-grade and all ninth-, 10th- and 11th-grade students were made to go to their classrooms (3 hours) and listen to Clinton. He was supposed to be there at 1 p.m. All the parking spaces were taken and he finally arrived at 2:15. The students missed 3 classes and when they were finally released they had to walk all the way around to get to their parents.

The seniors were made to go into the cafeteria to listen to him whether they wanted to or not. I was told by a teacher that not all the students wanted to hear him but they were not given a choice. I thought the Clintons were all about choice (abortion, same sex marriage, etc.). Think about the choice they gave our children. When he finished speaking and the mayor and county judge got through gushing over him it was time for school to be out. The traffic was so heavy that parents couldn’t get to their children and, worst, the school buses couldn’t get to the children. I think this probably made the teachers at the other schools that have to stay with the children until they are picked up have to wait. Was that their choice? I saw five police cars at the school waiting on him to finish so they could make sure he was safe. Humm, what about the students?

There has been a lot of talk about Arkansas High and I think the problems are big enough without adding more. When the article came out in the Gazette about the school I called that day and talked with Coach Peavy, the assistant principal, and left word with the principal to please call me. I volunteered to help in any way I could to make the school better. I agree with Kirk Blair on some issues but I tried as a parent. This wasn’t the first time I had tried to volunteer. When I went to register my daughter back in the summer I offered to do what I could to help. This was my daughter’s first experience in a public school. She was in a private Christian school until four years ago when I started home schooling her. She wanted to try a public school.

We have paid school taxes for many, many years and sad to say will continue to pay them, but my child will not be getting an education at Arkansas High. She was an honor roll student and had perfect attendance. She had received a letter of commendation for the National Honor Roll. That is Arkansas High school’s loss. I can’t take a chance on my child’s education. It is too important.

I see it is the Clinton way to teach freedom of choice, and do we want the children to have the morals of the Clinton's forced upon them.
That is some real BS!
That they were forced to go is BS?? or do you not believe that they were forced to go??

Since when do students have to be forced to get out of class. Sherry Potts missed the significance of the visit. Bill Clinton is a former president and any appearance he makes is an historical event. Potts should have kept quiet, her ignorance is showing.

My kids loved it when someone special came to their school. You know what, they learn a lot from this. A break from class never hurt a child. My kids were straight A honor students, and went on to college, deans list, etc. I think we should back our schools. They gave the children a gift. It is wonderful they got to hear a former president. They will remember it always. Back your school, you will never be sorry. Your kids will respect their school and their parents more that way. Just my thoughts.
