I wonder why some posts are taken off of topix when they are true, yet when something is not true it seems to be left on? There's certain people I've seen brought up on here that the post get's taken off. It's not slander when something's the truth. I know some people can't accept the fact that some family they see in church or in the community may not be what they portray. But I just want everyone to know, that if something is a lie it can be considered slander. But if it's the truth it's not.

I've noticed posts being removed even if they're simply legit posts, not drama-inducing or over-the-top or slanderous or anything.

Wonder what's going on. It's really weird.

What is defamation?

Defamation is false and unprivileged spoken words or written publication, which exposes any living person to hatred, contempt, ridicule, or which causes him/her to be shunned or avoided, or which has a tendency to injure him/her in his/her trade or occupation.

For example, if a person or the news media says or writes something about you that is understood to lower your reputation, or that keeps people from associating with you, defamation has occurred.

Most of these topics, who is this girl, or the worst resturant in town, these are defamation of character. You can have a slander sute against you.

The people who get their topics removed, are the one's that have enough sense to do so. And for all of those who don't understand, don't post anything bad about a person unless you have a lot of proof that it's true and you can back it up in court.

Just to let you know it's so easy to have a topic removed...

I understand defamation. But there is a difference between defamation and opinion. For instance, my opinion on food of a resturant is just that, my opinion. If I think the food is bad or good, that's my opinion and I have a right to say that with freedom of speech. But if I go and say that the kitchen is nasty, and it's not, or there was a bug in my food and there wasn't, then that is defamation. That would be a outright lie that would hurt their business. But my question was, if you post something that is true and you inform people so they are informed and aware of it, why are those the threads that seem to get removed. I guess someone could just post it every day if they wanted to. I've just seen things on here that should have been removed and are still listed.

On any topic that get's started on this board, it starts off with an opinion. Before it over with they are throwing in a bunch of negative remarks, thats defamatory remarks. Just saying. And if the people that are being talked about on this site cared that their name was being slandered, they should have it removed. It is very easy, just report abuse and they will simply remove it. If the other people's post aren't being removed, may be they don't care or don't know that their name is on here.

"Topix Chief Executive Officer Chris Tolles declined to be interviewed, but in a statement to "20/20" Tolles said Topix "pre-filter[s] user commentary" and "cooperates with law enforcement ... while being as respectful as possible with our user's privacy."
The Cooley case has launched Russell Stookey on a crusade, working with lawyers across the country, to bust others using Topix to defame.
In the Gene Cooley matter, Topix worked with the authorities on an active court case. The information provided by Topix helped identify someone guilty of defamation. We are never happy about people misusing our site and were happy to assist in this matter. "

All this may be true, but there is something called, Freedom of Speech.... And yes as long as it's informative information, at times its helpful.
People gonna believe what they want to anyway.
And yes, people are gonna talk, it's just life. Move on, if it's the truth people sure don't want it known..... Just my opinion....
