I haven't been back to Douglas in years. I'm a past educator, and was wondering who won teacher of the year?

I ask someone that very question. Shouldn't teacher of the year be announced at the end of the school year? I have absolutely nothing against this woman, but it's too early. Sorta, kind of backwards.

The teacher of the year is announced for each school at the end of the school year. Last Friday night they announced the county wide teacher of the year, which is selected from all ellected teachers of the year from each school. This individual will be our representative for the county and is up for state wide teacher of the year.

Yes, Westside is so very proud of Staci Pope. She works really hard and all of her kids love her. She is a great teacher and friend to all. I have really liked working with her over the years.

There were some great teachers that were picked from each school, congrats to all of them. I am sure it was hard to pick just one.

However....I am so glad it was Staci.

The criteria for Teacher of the Year is just way off in my opinion. Pick someone who's willing to jump through all the hoops set up by the Fed Gov. Most teachers I know are way to busy trying how to working with the kids. We have way better teachers out there than the ones who choose to run the rat race and jump through all the hoops just to qualify. Gotta be a much better way to determine who's the teacher of the year. Now, I'm not taking anything away from the lady who won, other than she took her free time (we can hope) to fill out a bunch of paperwork and write a essay telling the people who voted (by the way, who does the voting)(I think it should be listed in the paper who voted and for what teacher and why)It's just too easy to make a vote on the teacher you like without having to give rhyme or reason why. I think all the teachers would agree with me. The true hero's in education out there do it far greater reasons than a plaque on the wall or a pic in the paper.
