I hate sitting behind people with their right turn signal on at a red light and they don't turn until its green. If there is NO traffic you CAN turn right on red unless there is a sign stating you cannot....
You can even turn LEFT ON RED on a one way street if it is clear and there is no sign stating otherwise.

You are right on both points but sometimes it's difficult to see to make a right or left turn especially on the 2-way pairs in Douglas. Vehicles pull up and you can't see. Sometimes you have no choice but to wait for the light. I think we should be more concerned with slowing down in a work zone and remembering to STOP and not SLOW down for pedestrians. Somebody might get hurt, you think?

Like I said in the first post "make sure there is NO traffic".
I'm talking about the people who just sit there and its obviously safe to turn.
I have noticed drivers slowing down for pedestrians and not stopping also...not good. I have also noticed drivers will almost never stop if the car is turning in front of them and will pass off the ROAD to get by them. C'mon people, its only a few seconds you have to wait. Don't get in an accident because you are too impatient to follow the rules and put others in danger.

Yes, you can turn right on red in Ga. UNLESS you are driving a school bus. Most people don't know that a school bus is not allowed to turn right on red and get aggravated that they have to wait behind the bus.

Everybody should just slow down. This isn't Atlanta and it never will be.

I can't go to Douglas without seeing atleast one person running red lighs. I am not talking about it turns red as they go under i am talking about red before they go through the intersection. I think Douglas needs red light cameras like the bigger cities have hey they would pay for themselves in time. Just my thoughts

Bet you didnt know that you can make a left turn on red too. Sure can- only on way roads turning left onto another one way road. There is only one spot in Douglas that you can do that on and it is the square across from the court house. Turn left off Peterson onto Ashley @ the red light. Turn left off Ashley onto Madison. Turn left off Madison onto Ward, turn left off Ward onto Peterson.

My one wish is to see people in this town purchasing vehicles with the "BLINKER" option; and then learn how and when to use them. It makes traffic flow sooooo much more smoothly when everyone knows what each driver is planning!! But alas, after this many years I just don't see it happening!

it kills me to get behind someone that does not believe a turning lane is actually for you to get it to turn and get out of my way!! Instead, they stop in the driving lane and hold up traffic.. and i also was unsure if you could turn left onto a one way like in front of the courthouse.. i actually saw someone do this and did not know if it was legal or not!

Forget the red lights. It's Wal-Mart parking lot you have to be wary of. Folks will mow you down for a parking space!

The drivers cutting across the parking lot are dangerous. You need to follow the same rules of the road... stay between the lines and drive to the end of the lanes instead of diagonally cutting across. I was hit by a guy in a parking lot because he was too lazy to follow the rules. He paid for my car, got points on his license and his insurance went up too.

I couldn't agree more! Just a couple days ago my husband & I were driving through the parking lot at Wal-Mart & saw 2 vehicles almost hit each other. They both were skipping across the parking spaces. I said to my husband then that I was surpised there wasn't a wreck every day or at least once a week. Like you said, I make certain to treat ANY parking lot like it's a roadway. Just have to be sure to watch for the nuts that aren't doing the same.

You know; that's probably why we have so much trouble shopping also. We try to use the same rules of the road in the stores (stay to the right; don't block the entire road; let others pass). But, we forget that there are soooo many that don't care (or know) the rules. Oh well, maybe someday they will learn.

I too hate when people don't turn right on red when they can. They do not have to turn if they don't want to, but that will get me mad.

You don't know if they can see or not and it is only a few seconds you have to wait. Chill out.

Thank you for this post. I taught my kids that you open the right door, stay to the right and all gies smoothly. I've watched folks play chicken because they couldn't figure out who should move to get by.

Also, bicyclists ride with the traffic and pedestrians walk against traffic. It helps to have some sort of reflective clothing on while riding bikes or walking at night. It helps us drivers from hitting you at night.

Amen! If it's safe, PUHLEASE turn right on red! Good thing this ISN"T atlanta becuz half the drivers here would be slammed! 4real! and the left on a one way is something others don't know. I've done that & had the ppl next to me gawk and look like omg! It may not be Atlanta but we all have lives & places to go. Plz don't be a moron and hold up traffic, just becuz we're a small town? Alas my car horn doesn't work and it's prob a good thing. This morning was behind a person by the catfish hse who sat there for 2 min w/ their blinker blink blink blinking away and WOULD not turn right. I illegally went around them after making sure it was safe becuz my daughter had to get to school & me to work. Learn to drive or at least reread the drivers manual.
