Looks like to me they make enough money to hire more cashiers. Anytime I go it takes longer to check out than to shop. Tonight I found an express lane with only 3 people in it with little or no items after 10 minutes the first guy got his check cashed, then the next lady started making 6 transactions loading a credit card. I had already been to the bank so I just put my stuff down and walked out.

I avoid Wal Mart at all costs. I'd rather buy what I can from Fred's, Dollar General, & Sav a Lot. I go only when absolutely necessary-once or twice a month. And get in & out as fast as possible.

Let me know how to get out fast. I have been there past midnight and there was only 1 register open with 5 people in line with buggies full. They probaly thought they could go late and get out quick but it didn't work. They didn't even have the self check out open.

Happened to me today. Old lady in front of me in line appeared to have a small number of items however she paid for them using three different methods. I swear it took her 1 minute to write a check and another to put her pen back in her purse. After using a ebt card to pay for the food items she paid cash for her cigerettes After I checked out and paid with a debit card which at wal-mart you can swipe and enter your pin while the cashier is scanning your goods (they should tell you that) the old lady not real old probably 60 still had not moved her buggy and was still talking to the clerk. By this time there were 5+ in line behind me and the clerk was yelling at another clerk who seemed to be wondering around probably waiting for her break to end to open another register. I can't finish this story because I grabbed my four bags of food that I paid for $80 dollars plus and walked around the lady in front of me (She was still talking to the clerk about could she put coffee on her ebt card and left regreting my decision that I knew was a bad one to begin with to go to Wal-Mart. Moral of this story.(That old woman would not have been at wal-mart had it not been for the ebt card. She could have got her smokes outside at the murry. Ban Food Stamps. If you can afford cigerettes you can buy your own food!)

You can always use the self-checkouts. You know... where YOU pay to do THEIR job for them.

I don't mind to scan it myself it means to get out quickly. BUT with 4 kids and the scanner/weigher cooperating and the people in front of you that actually know how to use the machinge without an associate odds are low that its worth the time. AND they do close them registers for some reason at night.

To me, the self-checkouts are like paying to eat at a restaurant where you cook the food yourself.
The cost of labor is factored into the selling price of every item. So, when you purchase an item you are also paying them to perform a service; which would include a cashier to conduct the sale. Unless they offer a discount to compensate me for the labor I provide to them, I refuse to use the self-checkouts.

LOL! People are so impatient now adays. Wal-Mart is the overall low price leader. So if I have to stand in line for a lil while to save some money, then yea I don't mind doing it. Don't hate on the company that has help many families save money. You don't stand in line at Fred's or Dollar generals for very long because they don't have as many customers. Use your heads before typing.

I think you are referring to wal-mart before Sam Walton died. Before he died you never got hassled returning something and if there were more than 3 people in line they openned another register now they only care about money. They are not the cheapest anymore on many things and don't care about service and almost everything in the store used to be made in the USA now see if you can find something from here. Now we have to go there because it is the only place you can get something or because they are way cheaper but my original point is they are making enough money to keep enough cashiers.

That's the whole point...not as many customers. And I do think before I type....and before I shop. Thank you.

With the Walmart children being on the top ten list of billionaires, Yes they can afford to pay cashiers to check out customers buying their products in a faster pace than they provide now. I have waited in line and gotton so frustrated I left too.
They really peed me off when they ran the local fabric store out of business and then deleted theirs. I never went there for fabric that there was not people waiting to get fabric cut, so don't tell me they did not sell enough to keep it.

I have found it quickest when I go around 7 am. I know it is early but it is the best time to go to get in and out of there.

I don't mind the long wait when the cashier is paying attention to what they are doing, and not who they are doing. You can go into Walmart any time of the day, and the cashier will be talking to the next cashier about EVERYTHING from the managers, to who they were doing last night, its uncalled for in a work place. I have stopped shopping there unless absolutely necessary. Customer service really is awful any where you go now. It's crazy how so many businesses in town have bad customer service, when there are so many people who really want, and need a job.

Yes. Wal-Mart is the overall low price leader. I work for the distribution. We are not the cheapest on everything but overall we do beat all the competition out there. As far as hiring more cashiers. They do and the cashiers are on something called production. Yes Sam Walton is gone but I can assure you that his morals and ideas are still inbedded in the company and that will never change. Don't hate the company that has helped millions of families live a better life. Also we are expanding in the small store businesses as well with Wal-Mart Express. Just like the Dollar General but we will offer fresh produce. Save Money , Live Better, Wal-Mart

And why is it that Walmart is copying Dollar General? Would it have something to do with the fact the DG bumped Walmart out of the #1 spot for largest retailer in the U.S.?

LOL....DG bumping out Wal-Mart? nah buddy never happened and never gonna happen. Get your facts straight. Wal-Mart is still the largest retailer. We just want to make it easier for people who live in smaller town that don't have the advantage of have a supercenter.

My facts are straight. Walmart may still be the largest retailer in the world, but their share in the U.S. market has slipped recently.
I understand that it's hard to accept reality sometimes when you are a company man and you are taught to toe the company line and only believe what Corporate tells you to believe.

shares have slipped? Who shaeres haven't slipped with the economy the way it is. They reality of the situation is that Wal-Mart is on top and will stay on top. You may be asking yourself why this is...the reason is that we don't ever think that we are big enough that another could surpass us. We also strive to better ourselves and the company. You are a classic hater. Maybe you should drink some Kool-aid and lay off the hateraid
