I have used Merritt's for years and personally know the family very well. They are awesome people and have a good company going. They by far process the most deer meat in the county and at times have to turn away people because the coolers get full and don't have room to store until they can process. Prices have drastically went up across the nation on everything from fuel to groceries. I know for a fact that his pork trimmings that he uses in his sausage really has went up and finally had to raise his own just so he could make a profit. He also employs alot of people that way he can get the meat done faster. If they weren't one of the best they wouldn't have as much business! Thanks to Kenneth, Angie and all the kids for a job well done!

Don't mean to change the deer subject, but how is the wife and mother? Wasn't she moved to Shady Acres?

I am not sure, I left in August to go off to college, and haven't talked to them very much. I will try to call one of the boys today and find out though.

Kenneth and his brother are both married to Angie's. His brothers wife Angie is the one with M.S. She is currently in the hospital. For any of you who are familiar with this disease, you know that it takes a tremendous toll on your body. She was receiving excellent care at home, however the disease has progressed to the point of needing to receive extra cares. She is a sweetheart, and so are her children. Please take time every day to thank God for your abilities. Even things so minor as scratching your nose or getting yourself something to drink or even pulling covers on yourself if you so desire. We often find ourselves whining about every little ache(myself included) that we have, but if you could sit with her even one day, you would thank God for even being able to get up every morning. I know God gave her the children he did because he knew how well they would love and see after their mother. They truly love her and it shows every day. She couldn't have come out of a more supportive household when it comes to her care, husband included. Please keep all of them in your prayers every day because we love them all! Thanks for all the concerns.

Thread Killer? What is important, let's see deer that is eating the crops our farmers are trying to make a living off of, not to mention the many wrecks that are caused by deer. And by the way it is illegal to sell deer. I say kill them!
Hate to sound stupid, but is it illegal to sell deer?

I do not hunt and my sister divorced her husband that used to share his deer with the family.
Sure would love to get some sausage or steak but I doubt anyone wants to see me out hunting.
It would be dangerous for all around.

nothing wrong with shooting deer, and you have the choice to take it to who ever you want to process the deer,so stop your complaining and enjoy your hunting, could be worse and dont get to only harvest to deer like most states.

That is about a $1.30 a pound, give or take a few cents, go buy lean meat at the store for that price!
the way i feel about it if u dont want to pay the price for them processing your meat then i think you should try and just buy all of the machinery to do it yourself and you skin your own deer and gut him and do it all by yourself and then by gosh you will go up to merritt's and beg them to do it for you for the convenience of it they will take a deer no matter what time it is it doesnt matter if it is three in the morning they take it they are great people i know them well

As mentioned, the Butcher Shop, has locations in Pearson and Axon. They have great guys working there that do a good job of processing and packaging all kinds of meat. from hogs to beef to deer.

Very clear and precise post--That's
what choices are all about--if he is too high in your opinion, seek another route-- my opinion, Kenny and Angie are fine hard working pople and are in business to process deer for the public-- it is not a favor for those that don't want to process their own meat. If i think a store around here is too high on their prices it's very simple---I don't shop there---Jack ---P,S. Kenny probably prosses more deer in one year than everyone in this area all put together, someone must think what he charges and the job he does is alright. He has customers that have been bringin g their deer to him for years,,,,,Have a great hunt.....Jack

I'm glad we have places like Merrits. If we didn't, there would be a lot more carcasses thrown beside the road by folks too SORRY and LAZY to properly dispose if them

I totally agree with poboy! Kenneth & Angie are great people! We have used them for years! Wouldn't consider going anywhere else. They are just like anyone else in business!! They are trying to make a living! And if the prices are to high for you, then do it yourself!

Deer are overpopulated because of "hunters" planting these unnatural food plots, in effect keeping the deer population thriving artificially. They plant food to keep deer breeding and growing at out of control levels, then claim to do us a favor by killing them in huge numbers and calling it a sport.
