I have been having severe back problems for quite sometime now. Can anyone give me any information about the Hughston Clinic in Columbus, GA and the doctors that work there?

its Houston clinic. In Columbus Ga. you have to have a referal to go there . if you are having back pain or you have a diagnosis you may want to consult with your local physician or orthapedist.

let me say that back surgery is one of the most traumaic surgeries one can endure. It is also one of the most likely to fail in releiving pain. Spinal disk sugery is only rated at 70% successful even by the best surgeons.

back problems are 100% related to weight problems. if you are overweight and contemplate back surgery you need to lose weight to at least 110% of your body mass index as related to your height before you ever have surgery. the likely hood of surgery failure is directly related to your body mass.

The Houston Clinic is expensive, they are not medicaid recepients, so be aware that you will have to have the means to pay with either insurance or private means.

Retired Lady, you had Hughston Clinic spelled right because my husband had to go there for a very bad broken leg.

Hughston clinic is wonderful. Don't listen to big bell... no referral is needed. And no, all back problems are not weight related. I weigh 165 pounds and have a family history of degenerative disc disease. I put off surgery for years, but finally had a four-disc fusion five years ago. It was a wonderful experience. I can do more now than ever, and while I'm not 100% pain free, my quality of life has increased exponentially.

I agree with Mr P....Hughston clinc is great. They have done shoulder surgery on me with great success, but I also have a Dr much closer in Valdosta who is great with backs and back pain and he isn't one to jump into any kind of surgery without a good reason. He is Dr Bipen Patel. I'd try him first rather than drive 3 hours.

Hughston is the spelling, named for it's founder, Dr. Jack Hughston. For backs strongly suggest John Dorchak or Ken Burkus if surgery is required. Would seek out a course of rehab prior to any invasive surgery.

Thanks for all the comments. I've had 4 opinions. Doctors from Brunswick, Tifton, Mayo Clinic, and a Dr. Pahl from Hughston Clinic. I saw him at the Hughston Clinic in Valdosta. Dr. Pahl looked at my records (films, etc.) from the tests the previous doctors had made. He found a screw broken(from a previous surgery). All the other doctors did not seen this. He gave me telephone numbers of other patients he had done surgery on. I called them and they were 100% pleased with Dr. Pahl. I am not anxious to jump into another surgery, but have no choice. I am trying to find out everything I can before making a decision. Thanks for all you comments, I appreciate them very much.

I originally visited the Hughston clinic a few weeks ago with a shoulder problem. I was given a cortisone shot which helped for about 2-3 days. By the beginning of the next week I was in awful pain so I called Dr Tucker and spoke with his nurse explaining the situation (I was out of state) three days in a row I called talking to the nurse and received no help or no returned call from the doctor. Finally I went into the office upon my return home and changed doctors. The bad thing is I am not sure the people at this clinic care for much of anything other than the money they receive for services. Still no diagnosis and very little in the form of relief other than pain medicine and rehab. Neither of which have helped get me on a path to recovery.

I had a second opinion done at the one in Valdosta the Dr. told me if i had to have anything done he would refer me . That way you don't have to start with Columbus to get their opinion. He was very nice and told me my /Dr. was rite on with j=his diagnosis.

Great place...I had hip surgery there and the staff both at the hospital and office were super nice..
Couldn't get in with a Dr. there when I had a ruptured disk and ended up in Albany,Ga. and Dr. Kimberly Brown did my surgery...I recommend her.

A major rip-off place that I unfortunately had a very negative experience with. I would not reccommend this place to anyone.

Aunt Mamie had a wonderful surgeon who performed a total knee replacement. His name is Dr. Savory. My surgery went so well, the care I received was the best. The only problem I had was when I was discharged, the escort lady was very rude to me. She thought I was stealing a walker from the Clinic and wouldn't let me leave until they tracked down the "crime". My floor nurse found me back in the room and whisked me out the door when I told her what happened. She is my hero! Later, when I reported the escort lady, it sounded as though they have continuous complaints and said they were tired of the patient complaints. I think she was fired....

I have had two shoulder surgeries. Still having problems (shoulder keeps popping out of socket) no doctor can help around here. Was told Hughston was a good shoulder clinic. Can anybody confirm, good or bad shoulder surgery?

Back in 1997 my husband got hit by a car and it broke his right leg from the knee all the way down to his foot shattering his bones like toothpicks and the Hughston Clinic did a wonderful job on his leg. The right leg is a littlebit shorter than the left and he has to have a special heel put on his right shoe. But we were satisfied with them, they got him back to walking again. Years ago they would have just took his leg off.

As a teenager I went to the Hughston Clinic to have knee surgery. Dr. Jacobson was my physician. Great guy! I really like the Hughston Clinic.
My mom recently had back surgery. She went to some spinal clinic in Tifton with a Dr. Sims. She really really liked this young physician. I met him once & I was really impressed with his bedside manner. I think he's truly breaking new ground in spinal surgery around our area. And as important as a physician is, the hospital & staff where the surgery is performed is equally as important. My mom said the nursing staff at Tifton Regional Medical Ctr. were superb & treated her really well.
So here are some ideas to throw around...

I had back surgery a few months ago from an accident. Went to Hughston Clinc - it was highly recommended. Dr. Dorchak did my surgery. At one month check up, I told the P.A. that I felt like I was walking slanted and was told no, that I was perfect. Felt like I was recovering wonderfully except that I still felt slanted. After two month mark, the pain got worse. Tried on bathing suits and realized that I was crooked. My waist was about 2 inches higher on one side. Called and went back 1 wk before my 3 month appt. with this info and concern. Dr. would not even hardly talk to me about it. Said I could live with it- can't it hurts, then said that I could straighten up- which I can't. He was defensive from the beginning and we were never argumenative or accusatory - just wanted me fixed. Finally, he said he over- inflated the spacer - it usually works but not on me. Still no real move to help me fix it. I was totally shocked and appalled. I thought he was a great dr. and think he probably it still.I just went expecting him to sit down and tell me what to do to fix it. He didn't. I was finally offered physical therapy or maybe putting a spacer on the other side. But he didn't seem happy to offer this. Has anyone had this happen at Hughston? Does anyone know a good Dr. in Montgomery that I might get a second opinion from? I don't know what to do or where to turn. In Dothan, the doctors won't see you if you have seen another back dr. recently.
