Has any other parent that has a senior at coffee high heard about the new principal trying to cancel and taking away the platinum reception? My daughter is upset because she had heard these things and feels it is wrong. These kids spend many years to make it to this point so why take away senior memories. Before someone comes back with a smart comment yes I am aware that I could call the school or the boe and would be given an answer but I know they will not give me an honest answer do I want to see if other kids have said anything to their parents.

My daughter told me he was going to cancel prom due to the juniors causing problems. I wasn't sure if that was true and never had another thought about it but now I'm wondering if that's true. I hope not.

If they do cancel it, do what Irwin county does. Have a parent sponsored prom off campus, use the prom ticket price to cover expenses. Take the profit away from the school if they try to take memories from the kids.

Best way to squash a rumor is to seek the truth and specifics. Based on the first post there's a whole lotta "they said, they heard" and no specifics. This sort of post isn't helping anyone, so why would anyone return the favor? Go speak to your child's principal. Have a nice day.

Amen! If they decide to cancel the prom be creative if it means so much to the person.

I doubt if the principal even knows about the prom. If the football coach didn't tell him, he doesn't know. I hear he stays in his office and has no clue what is going on.

He is in his office every time I go up there. He isn't very popular with the teachers either.

Some of you need to get your facts correct before making statements like some of these silly ones. If you want to know about proms or receptions or whatever, go see the man and ask. Every time I have been to see him he has been welcoming and very helpful. I like him and have heard nothing but good things about him!

Platinum reception will be later for seniors. Platinum was when the state looked at other criteria for AYP. Now that has changed with the state. Right now, they will recognize any student who EXCEEDED on the EOCT since this is a new recognition by the state with a celebration sometime this month.

Prom isn't cancelled. Students got the reception info and prom confused and then of course someone on Topix had to post it and cause problems. Typical Coffee County. Hear a rumor, post it on Topix and get stuff started.

Haven't heard any teachers complain.

Mr. Cummings is clearly a smart man and an excellent leader. As best I can tell, teachers respect and appreciate him.

Do they have a choice? They can't strike, and their opinions don't matter.

You are wrong. Teacher morale does matter. Adminstrators who don't realize that, don't usually last long.
