What ever happened to Crystal Lake? It was fun to go there, a clear springfed lake, only a few miles from here.

Went to a place called Cold Shoot once. Up toward the Ocmulgee on 441 N. The water was a pretty blue color & freezing cold. Kind of deep in the woods- but worth it, if you can find it.

I sure wouldn't go river way looking for springs or swimming holes without a few brave men. We were up there once & some scary looking folks came up. They didn't bother us - but we cut our trip short. AND, we weren't expecting the water to feel like melting snow!

A pond or bar pit is hard to beat in this heat.

The Ocmulgee River can be pretty dangerous for people who don't "know" about currents and such. Grown men who were good swimmers have drowned there. It may be low now, but it only takes one freak incident to cause a death. Even if it doesn't rain here, rain further north can cause it to rise. Be careful.

We turned L at the Jacksonville, Ga. light, went down that road- not far- less than or maybe a mile or so- take another L, it looked like a two path road- then just off the L side of that path, it was tucked in the woods. Not sure, if its still accessible. The owner may have finally stopped visitors. It was a beautiful crystal clear (had a lovely blue-green hue) & it was absolutely FREEZING! You may could stop & ask the Boone's or someone living in the area. I'm sure the older folks would know. I went twice. I hope this helps - it has been several years back. Not huge, but large enough.

What did happen to Crystal Lake? Is it still open? If not, does anybody know why?

Let us know if you find it. Would be interested in hearing about the search, remember to take a gun & a couple of brave men. Hope it's not all covered with thick vegetation. I doubt seriously it dried up- it was evident it is a natural crystal spring fed swimming hole.

I was told something was found in the water from all the people going there. But that was years ago I was told that. Not sure if it is true.

Go to this site to see a picture of crystal lake in 2008 I think it said when the picture was taken. It is/was on private property.

Google Crystal Lake. You will see a pic of what was. It's almost dried up and has been shut down for years because of the law suits still pending. The owners have drug it out in the court system for so long hopping it will go away i guess. But, it is all still there. Just no water. All dried up except a small spring about the size of a 24' round pool...
So sad

I wouldn't waste my time looking for that little ole swimming hole. The landowner gated it up...about all it's used for these days is turkey hunting. It's very thick brush & a kudzoo jungle. There are No Tresspassing signs around. I wouldn't bother- if you're discovered, you may be prosecuted. I'd go on down to Jinnie Springs or Itcheetucknee Springs. REALLY, don't waste your time.

As for me & mine, we'll keep cool in our very own concrete swimming hole in our very own backyard. We wont be riverway looking for a snake infested sink hole. Unless you know the landowner, you best not be trespassing in that neck of the woods.
