How much would we save if we closed the 9th grade and closed Broxton school for the next 5 years? We could move the 9th back to the high school move Broxton to ambrose,WestGreen,Nichols and other schools. Yes this would be a tough choice but would it work try something like this before taking the easy way and raising property taxes.

There isn't enough room at the HS for the 9th grade. That was the decision to make room. Yes, two elem. schools need to be closed since Broxton and another one aren't fully funded.

However, closing 9th grade center isn't the answer.

How about combining Broxton and Ambrose into one school and Nicholls and West Green into another? I know those communities love their schools, but we can't afford to keep these tiny schools operating. Broxton is running less than 300 kids in a school that can house many times that, but they are determined not only to keep a school there, but to build a brand new facility.

If we can't shut down those tiny schools, can we at least enforce the existing district lines? That would help increase enrollment at Broxton and Ambrose while easing the overcrowding at schools like Indian Creek.

To combine ambrose or any other school would cost but if we closed broxton we would fill Ambrose Westgreen and Nichols that would give us full state funding. I was told that there is room at the high school with no growth over the next 3 to 5 years.

To ambrosian we have got to do somthing for more funding we have two choices cut spending or raise taxes. It is time that our local state and fed accept the fact they are broke. And we the people are two. We do not get state funding for Anbrose westgreen broxton and nichols we can not ambrose or any other school out of this.

Have any of you even considered the busing that it would take to move all these children . Your talking about moving kindergardeners thor 5th grade all over county they would have to leave home at 5am to get to school on time then leave school at 2:30 and get home after 5 pm 12 hours a day for school no way it will never work .

It would not be fair to combine these schools. It would not be fair for me a property owning tax payer whom lives in Nicholls to have to drive 20 minutes to take and pick my child up from school just bc some ppl want to same money. That is whole reason these areas are divided up into districts. And I know for a fact that Nicholls Elementary school does receive state funding, but yes it does depend on the number of students. And if anybody needs a new school facility Nicholls does!!!!

There would not be that much difference in time the extream north part of the county could be a problem Yes i agree there should be some more cuts at the top.

ambrose ie a nice little school. we dont have the problems alot of these other schools have.we have a great group of respectabl well behaved and well mannered students at ambrose. the people up here dont plan on that being messed up.the teachers are a great group of people also.theres alot of over spending in our school system that needs to be fixed before you start messing with our children.believe me you start with our school in ambrose all hell is gonna break loose.

The mony for a new school in broxton was aproved in the last splosh so it is a done deal we take 5 years to build there new school we have bought land for this under my thoughts a new school could be built at the same location where the school is now

One reason is there is not enough room there to build a school the size it would take , The land has already been bought so it needs to be built where the new school was proposed and then it will draw kids from a lot of areas .from town ,Broxton, Ambrose, it would make more since to do it that way get the school built then move the children so they don't have to spend so much time riding a bus i would not let my child ride a bus 3 hours a day just to save money. If they do anything with taxes it should be a penny sales tax " which no one can afford but it is the only fair way" that way even the renters pay for their kids education not just home owners.

I agree about the districts if they would enforce them. The houses behind the high school and in greentree lakes are suppose to go to broxton but the only ones who they make go are the ones living in trailer parks. Greentree lakes is considered broxton they vote in broxton make the kids go to broxton. Ambrose and broxton would not be a bad combo..( But does not need to be done) But westgreen and nicholls is to far apart.

We have got to come up with a solution now not 2 or 3 years away that could be done quik or we are facing tax increases from the board and next year tax increaes from the county.

I understand that there are 12-15 "created positions" at the top which probably costs you more than a million dollars. ELIMINATE these first, if the people left can't or won't do their jobs replace them as well. Then add a 1% sales tax if nyou need more.

It burns my hiney to know that I pay out the ying yang because I own a home while sooooo many others don't pay a dime in tax beyond the standard sales tax. It's a shame that more folks won't jump on and push the fair tax. Eliminate so many other forms of tax and increase a simple sales tax. We all need food, gas and other resources, but the bulk of this economy falls on the working mans shoulders and far too many are getting free rides at our expense.

LuLu, I have been preaching this sermon for years and it falls on deaf ears. Seriously, the property tax we now pay is out of line with actual property values in todays market. Real estate values have tumbled over the past two years and it is not over. Talk to some agents in Coffee County and ask them about listed prices on homes and the actual sold prices. There needs to be a reassessment of all property in this county and the seniors need a break on school tax. Either a serious discount or eliminate it completely from their property tax bills. They have paid for years past having kids in public schools and have met their obligation. It is time for fair tax and all residents of this county could pay their fair share through a sales tax increase. Why can't the county commissioners and BOE see the logic? I would imagine there are alot of hineies burning. JMHO

Our board doesn't have the testicles needed to redraw attendence zones and then enforce them.
