I got caught in that crap today -- took me four hours to get from Fairfax to Richmond. I tried US Route 1, but that was a bad idea & it took me an hour to get from Doswell to Ashland!

Why do these things always seem to happen on Fridays? Oy vey!

Doesn't help that the state fair is open in Doswell as well this week which probably contributed heavily to the traffic

I went to the Nats-Braves game in DC and was so glad I was traveling NORTH! What a mess.

These trucks drive through Maryland and Virginia via Route 301 and Route 207 before getting on 95. Most of them drive like morons. The MD and VA State Police need to keep an eye out for them.

I agree, Kevin! Those guys are on the lower end of the "food chain" as far as truckers go. Both the trash trucks (especially from MD and the DC area) and the container haulers generally have no lane discipline, don't know how to use a turn signal and their companies do as little maintenance as possible to keep them on the road.

They give the rest of us professional drivers a bad name. Of course, not all of them are like that -- but I drive up and down 95 ever day and call it as I see it. Complain to them on the CB and they'll just unleash a string of profanities that only seeks to ossify their reputation as a "wannabe driver" or a mere steering wheel holder.

You should see it on a saturday. My friends & I usually go to Kings Dominion on saturdays & the traffic on 95 south from Manassas to about Fredericksburg is always backed up.A good alternative is to try taking route 17 to Fredericksburg & then hopping on 95 southbound as the traffic usually eases up around there.

Depending upon what time I leave and where I am on Friday afternoons (the worst), I use 28 South from Sterling, take 66 West to Gainesville and then US 29 South around Warrenton.

That brings me down to US 17, and eventually to Fredericksburg. Unfortunately, 17 gets backed up pretty bad now in Stafford - as other people have figured out how to do the same thing. Doh!

If I am ever up around Baltimore, taking 97 to US 301 can work. Aside from the toll bridge at Dahlgren, it is a straight shot!
