was there a new calf born on 9-25-10? We were out there then and we were wondering if she delivered?

Living in Doswell I have to say I am not impressed. I haven’t gone and will not go for several reasons. First off as being advertised for the culture of Va I find it hard that the law abiding are not allowed their rights as per the constitution of Va. Virginia is a gun friendly state, and to pay to go into a place that does not let me control mine and my families safety I can not and will not support them. Unfortunately bad things do happen and I like to be prepared hoping that nothing does, but all the security in knowing if it did, me and my family would have a chance. Face it these carnival workers aren’t all church goers, and I have been on the bad end of what some of them are capable of.

Secondly, for a few dollars more, I could go to Kings Dominion and without separate ride tickets have a blast. Any more it seems like the family days are over as high priced as some things are. That doesn’t even account for the over pricing of food and drinks. They make it sound like so much fun on the commercials, but than after paying for entrance, which could be a real set back as to how many family members you have. They add insult to injury on the ride tickets, in which one child could easily blow through 20.00 quick, than the game prices, food and drink, and don’t forget the mementos of your outing they are high priced too.

Thirdly, what is it with the parking sham? Yes it may make it more covenant and less hassle but who is getting screwed. One car was 5.00 per vehicle didn’t matter the amount of occupants, 5 dollars per driver. Now its two dollars per ticket, two adults and four children equal 12.00 what an increase.

Supposedly the fair pays off duty state cops. I would like to know if that includes the vehicle wear and tear along with fuel. For the most part I have seen an excessive amount of State cars doing no more than sitting with lights on running with A/C’s going and the troopers doing nothing but sleeping or jacking their jaws. What a waste of service, even Kings Dominion don’t require that amount of attention, let alone the disturbance to the citizens of Hanover county in Doswell they disrupt..

Just sayin….

I have a few issues with your post. First off, the State Fair is a private organization that is no way connected with any type of government. Just as you can control who brings guns into your home, so can they. I would much rather they prevent anyone from bringing in weapons as I would take the chance of allowing one bad egg in with a gun,(and I am very pro gun btw.) As far as the pay to park idea goes, that was changed to prevent the backups that occurred last year. In my opinion, they did a wonderful job. Thirdly, the Troopers that are working traffic aren't off duty. That is their regular shift. The state foots the bill since it is a state road. These guys (and gals) are from all over the state and leave their families for almost two weeks just to work regular shifts. Think about that when you come home to your family tonight. The Troopers working inside are off duty and are working for the fair. I personally find comfort in knowing there are so many as I have been to the fair in the city and have witnessed it go bad. Thankfully, it appears the new location has improved that tremendously. Lastly, keep in mind the State Fair is a non-profit organization. They aren't getting rich off doing this. Most all are volunteers, but you can't put this on for free. As for you not wanting to spend your money, I think they can survive without your 50 bucks!
