Wow, it's amazing how often this kind of accident happens. Last summer, my 18-year-old sister was riding her bike and failed to stop at the corner of 4 mile rd. and Burchette in Plainwell-Delton area. It was a dirt road, too, so when she did try to stop at the last minute, her bike started sliding so she tried to beat the oncoming van...she got hit on the front driver-side corner of the vehicle, flung into the windshield, and thrown 60 feet down into a sink-hole face-down in shallow water. This was around 3pm. Luckily, the lady driving the van called an ambulance and since the ambulance couldn't reach her, they got a helicopter to take her to the hospital. She was bleeding internally, but they said she was lucky to be found early enough to fix her up. She was in the hospital for 2.5 weeks. She's alive today, without a splean and with a permanently-broken leg but alive and fully recovered now, Thank The Lord! Then, not even a month later, a boy got hit by a car on his bike in Kalamazoo I believe...I was shocked at how soon the same kind of accident happened again!

So yea, I think since this young man could not be saved, his story should atleast serve the rest of the community as a lesson to be learned in safety for both bike-riders and drivers! I mean, the driver must have been driving too fast or something to kill the kid if they were traveling in the same direction and the kid turned out in front of him...I don't know all the details but it makes me wonder...were there reflectors on the bikes so that drivers could see them? Was the driver careless in any way not to see the reflectors or the bikers' movements? Is there something we could learn from all this to avoid it happening to another unfortunate family?

<quoted text> It is going to say I am from some where else too, but I am from Grand Rapids MI and you never know, maybe Michigan Sux lives in your neighborhood, I think that all kids need to stay off the road period. The family should be going through a tremendouse loss, and that is because they forgot to tell their kids not to play in the road. Wake up lady!!
I am the sister of Thomas...he was my precious little brother. How dare you have the nerve to say that it was his fault and that he shouldn't have been on the road and that his mother should have done a better job raising him by telling him not to ride on the roads. You obviously have to be one ignorant blinded person. We live in the country. On dirt roads. There are never cars on the roads there and tons of ppl are always jogging, running, riding bikes, and riding horses there. May i please inform you that he saw the car and tried to get away..he was practically in the other lane. The car was just going to fast. The driver was going over the speed limit and he was blind in one eye...why was he driving anyways? You have no respect and no compassion. You have no idea how great a loss this is for my family and I.

There are no words I can offer to the family and friends of tommy, only prayers that Dan will have the strength, courage and fortitude to hold tight the love of the Lord. And Barb,I pray that God will grant you peace. The peace that passes all understanding.Your tragic lost may have darkend the world, but rest assured that Heaven has gotten alot brighter. I pray each morning for you and at night when I hit my knees. If there is anything I can do,please let me know.

this was not Thomas's fault at all in this tragity. this was a complete freak accident. i knew Tom for a few years. He was my very best friend. I cry when i see heartless people say it was his fault, because it most certainly was not! Thomas is the most amazing person you couold've ever known. when i lived by him, we hung out almost every single day. i cannot express how i feel about this whole situation, Tom is so important to me. i hate that he has died and now it's been almost a year and i stil cry myself to sleep about the whole entire thing. i love him so much, everyone who met him did, and now he is in Heaven. so i am happy for him but i miss him more and more each day. I love you Tommy! Rest In Peace <3
