This just goes to show that no one is exempt from situations like this. How sad that it is someone who our children are supposed to look up to!

Fire him and if convicted he does his time in general population. If you can't do the time then don't do the crime(s). And please get some help.

Job lost, prestige gone.
I am all for second chances, even for the worst things (except pedophilia) but this has gone beyond that now.
Unless someone comes up with some serious plans for an intervention, intensive counseling and some serious time off without a badge and a gun, it should be no policeman job for him anymore, I think.
Sad, his boss thnks he is a great deputy...i guess alcohol took him out...that and his glaringly poor ability to control his mouth and mind...

remember what happened in Holland not to long ago about another police officer killing his wife. If I remember right he had a restraining order against him too...hummmm...Listen to the wife keep him away.

Deputy Kevin Haan has been a roll model in Dorr and Salem township for as long as I have known him. Being very professional was his job and he was good at what he did. Now the tables have turned on him. All I can say is Kevin, don't hide behind the badge like officers in Plainwell and Holland. Each has left families and loved ones with scars that will never go away..

I'm sorry, but police officers MUST be held to a higher standard. This guy should get the ax, just like that perverted "Judge" Servaas.

Kevin Haan was a deputy in my neighborhood for a long time. He was not a "good one" as the department describes him. He spent a good deal of his patrol time hanging out at the local store, ogling his girlfriend. He gave preferential treatment as to whom he enforced the law against, often allowing those he knew to get away with breaking the law. He was much more interested in advancing his social life than doing his job. I believe the entire Allegan County Sheriff's Department should receive training on how to properly do their jobs. Police Officers are sworn to uphold the law, no matter who is breaking it. The county would be better off without this type of officer, when there are so many police academy graduates looking for jobs.

I would not feel soooooo good seeing this guy (pack'in heat) walking up beside my car at a traffic stop! Might want to put him at a desk for a few years and see if he can get his problems resolved.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on this situation. It's really sad that our children look up to people like this sometimes. If he does do prison time though, he will not be in general population, they will end up putting him most likely in segregation where he will be safe.

Will we be reading about another local officer killing his wife? This time let's put a stop to it, before we are dealing with a tragedy. Is this who we want our children looking up to? Officer Haan knows first hand what the law is and apparently has chosen to break it 3 times. Turn in your badge - you don't deserve it.

Or another tragedy like the little boy killed by the drunk driver in Grand Rapids. It is ironic that these two stories are on the same page, and that one of the parties is a police officer. How many drunk driving accidents has Kevin Haan seen in his career? Yet he chooses to drink and drive himself.

What goes around comes around eh Haan. J.P. and Vonda are far better officers. When Haan was moved from the area there was a more relaxed atmosphere. Now we are equals-no preffered treatment. Tough luck sucker.

Hmmm, my fiancee is serving 18 months for drunk driving and running across 131 from an Allegan County sheriff deputy. I was told that if he had gotten caught in any other county, he would have gotten probation. Supposebly Allegan County is very strict. Why not in this case??. How can a man like this arrest citizens for drunk driving when he is doing it himself? It sounds like this officer has put many years into his career and is a well respected guy. Maybe the county ought to give him the option of substance abuse treatment at his own cost or be fired. I don't know.

Just fire this fool and be done with it. The worst thing in the world is an uneducated, illiterate power-hungry loser with a badge. Actually, that's the second-worst thing. The worst thing is a perverted judge like that Servaas and his freak show.
