The U.S. unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent last month, dropping below 8 percent for the first time in nearly four years and giving President Barack Obama a potential boost with the election a month away.

The rate declined from 8.1 percent because the number of people who said they were employed soared by 873,000 – an encouraging sign for an economy that's been struggling to create enough jobs.

The number of unemployed Americans is now 12.1 million, the fewest since January 2009.

The Labor Department said employers added 114,000 jobs in September. It also said the economy created 86,000 more jobs in July and August than the department had initially estimated.

Wages rose in September. And more people started looking for work.

The revisions show employers added 146,000 jobs per month from July through September, up from 67,000 in the previous three months.

The 7.8 percent unemployment rate for September matches the rate in January 2009, when Obama took office. In the months after Obama's inauguration, the rate rose sharply and had topped 8 percent for 43 straight months.

Well I wonder how the republicans will try to spin this one ?????

That statistic obscures the fact that the overall job record so far in this presidential term has been negative, and will most likely be adjusted down in a week or two when more data is compiled, as is the history of this report.

The number of people submitting a ss disability claim has jumped a stunning 30 percent, from about 556,000 in July 2012 to more than 736,000 in August 2012, and are no longer counted in the latest unemployment figures.

White House officials are trying to downplay the growing political damage caused by a shrinking federal statistic: the percentage of working-age Americans who actually have jobs.

The increasingly visible statistic shows that roughly 11 million working-age Americans are being excluded from the nation’s formal tally of 13.75 million unemployed Americans

The number of persons employed part time for economic reasons (sometimes
referred to as involuntary part-time workers) rose from 8.0 million in August
to 8.6 million in September. These individuals were working part time because
their hours had been cut back or because they were no full time jobs available.

In September, 2.5 million persons were marginally attached to the labor force.
They were not counted as unemployed because they had not searched for work in the previous 4 weeks for a number of various reasons.

Republican's cannot handle the truth....simple reality is that Republicans only care about the lack of jobs if it can help them win elections. Once in office, they view jobs as profit leeches.

Well just 30 days before the election it suddenly changes even though every month since Obama took office the jobless rate had went down, and there is no way to use there numbers to establish what they are trying to say it defies logic, and it denies the millions who gave up on finding work,as well as those capable and needing work but who years ago retired are should I say tried to until this idiot obama came along. Also note more people are on welfare than since the great depression and more people have been out of work for as long as the great depression. It seems to me that obama had a wonderful opportunity to use this so called 7.8% lie at the debate he lost and looked like the boob he is.

Obama is gone because he lack even basic leadership traits. American needs a leader and Obama has shown he cannot lead this country.
That, my friends, is root of all the problems

Here is one for you to ponder "Rightwing" If the rate dropped to 7.8 the same as it was when he took office in Jan. 2009 then that is proof his policies and lack of a plan have failed because the jobless rate has not improved, in fact it got worse and is now the same. we are where we were in 2009..NO PROGRESS,=Failure-equals we add 1 more to the unemployment line..Obama.
