Multiply this situation with all the small Post Offices around the country. Politicians are being bombarded with petitions not to close Post Offices. In the Private world of business you wouldn't think of stopping a bread store from closing or a car parts place. That's why the Post Office is in bad shape already. They just are not allowed to manage themselves, politicians are involved. Congress men putting political pressure on them to keep these money pits open. With bank fund transfers, internet, e-mail and high tech phones there just isn't room for the Post Office any more.

Not everyone has email (especially elderly persons who dont have computers) and many of us do like to write letters the old fashion way, BY HAND, and we send birthday cards, get well cards, etc. You can close the smaller post offices which I understand but you cant close them ALL.

I still don't understand why they haven't cut OUT Saturday mail deliveries, or even cut deliveries down to M-W-F, period. That would save a fortune. Might also save some of the smaller post offices that people keep crying over. But the postal service really IS going the way of the dinosaur. It's in its death throes as we speak.

So let me get this straight - there's a petition to keep open a post office that is not closing? People need to get informed before they get all up in arms over something.

So if & when greenwood does close, YOU can not HAND write a letter ,BB & get well card with post office closed , you will still have a way to mail them ,but the way you spell I would get a computer. See your post [(especially elderly persons who dont have computers)]
[don't] is correct ! I would not write the old fashion way , I would write the correct way!.

I believe most of you are missing the point. We are talking about the USPS, where the higher levels of employees are making over $250,000 a year. Closing the small offices and moving carriers to be more cost effective is NOT what's going to save the postal service, it's saving the white collar's pay. Community people should stick up for their way of life and take action to save these offices and people should look at the big picture. Just b/c the mail may not be important to you, it may be to someone else. This service has tied our nation together for 100's of years and should continue. What needs to be stopped is the crazy pay employees get that never even touch a piece of mail.

I attended the meeting on the greenwood post office on 1/9/13,one of the comments made by the speaker was that the moved the for Greenwood to save the time and money by the truck not having to stop at greenwood. The mail truck still stop at the greenwood post in the morning as it has to drop the mail off for the post boxes
in the office. I do believe some is trying to pull the wool over us
which leads me to believe there intent is eventuslly close greenwood P.O at some later date.

Wrong "Gru"...the USPS has been no more alive than it is today. You can thank the George W. Bush administration and Republican controlled legislature on Capitol Hill for the United States Postal Service becoming an endangered species!!

Think again "Retired Postal Worker" for the USPS is needed now more than ever and don't be surprised if U.S. Congress and this nation's President push for legislation to imposes federal taxes on online orders!!
