Ripley County Farmers Market would like to thank Dennis and Genie Smith, owners of Plaza Flowers, for sponsoring the Hospitality Tent at our first market of the 2013 season. Come by on Saturday, May 4th, from 8:00 - Noon for free refreshments. When you see Dennis and Genie, please thank them for supporting our goal:

The goal of the Ripley County Farmers Market is to enhance the quality of life in Doniphan by providing fresh, high-quality, locally grown produce, small livestock and hand-made artisan works to create a vibrant, educational marketplace for the community benefit.

Come shake the hand that grows your food!

We welcome you to the Ripley County Farmers Market!

The Farmers Market is a great asset to the community. As a matter of fact, blocked streets are a great thing. I see them as an opportunity for people to get out of their cars and actually have some person-to-person contact with other humans. I don't want a "drive-thru" town....I want a town where people know one another and appreciate one another. A community is not streets to drive through....it's people.

I couldn't agree with you more! Many people tell us at the market on Saturdays that the socialization (along with the fresh produce) at the market is the highlight of their week. What a great experience for the farmers and the patrons. Everyone has so much to give and it is wonderful to learn from each other.

Thank you for your positive words!

Guest....exactly what are you trying to get to that is so important that you can't drive around the block? It's not like this street is a major artery that is crucial for travel. Drive down the next street over....park your car....and address whatever crucial business you need to attend to on a Saturday morning. I'm sure it's of the utmost importance. Then get back in your car and drive directly home with as little human contact as you can. I'm sure that's in everyone's best interest.

You've got great people skills, Guest! Well....I guess they could rent a building....but then it wouldn't be a Farmers' Market! That's the whole idea....an outdoor market....where people can enjoy the sunshine and charming neighbors such as yourself!

My God, I can not believe the forums this "Guest" person gets on and runs their mouth. You know I was raised if you dont have anything nice to say keep your mouth shut. You need to change your name to "WoodenSpoon" so when you are commenting everyone knows your comment is just trying to stir crap. Or you know what? I have a better suggestion...get a JOB, so you dont have so much time on your hands to run down EVERY SINGLE person on this forum. I personally love the farmers market and my kids like going to it, so keep up the good work. It is an experience except in a small country town.

Guest is unkind, unhelpful, unsympathetic, unliked, and will remain unrepentent. Pay no attention to anyone posting under that name. If he and everyone like him who thinks and spouts the drivel for which he has become famous were all put in a leaky rowboat in a sewage lagoon, the effluent of the lagoon would vomit them onto dry land so as not to be contaminated.

Excuse me, Guest? Your opinion is now my business cause you put it on a PUBLIC FORUM!!! If you want to bitch about everything and everyone on here and don't want people responding then do your mouth running at your kitchen table. And just for the record I do have a job, thank you!! Can you say the same thing? A job other than shit stirring on topix, that is.

My problem with the Farmers Mkt. is that they close early. I am one that likes to sleep in on Sat. and by the time I get to town they are packing their wares.

I can see them getting out early in the summer heat, but in the spring and fall when it is cooler why not go about 9:30 and stay till 2:00?

Thank Goodness for the farmers market, I personally would much rather my children eat fresh home grown fruit and vegetables than those at the store. I support the farmers market. And as far as them blocking the streets go I feel it gives the community a chance to walk some and meet and indeed shake the hand of the people who are growing the food. In no way shape form or fashion could a farmers market be a bad thing.

Hey Beth, someone has been posting on another thread wanting some locally bred silkie chickens (I think they want chicks). Know anybody that has that kind? They stated that they would prefer to get local instead of going to Orschelin.

Thanks Autumn, and Beth I am interested in some silkie hens or chicks or even eggs. I can hatch them myself. I don't know how to contact you except on here and I do not want my number put on here. Some of these people can be rude.
