i am homeless i have no where to live no where to sleep nothing to eat or drink, i am afraid expecially at night and with winter coming soon. i have no clothes no money and flip floppers for shoes. i have no one to turn to for help, my family does not want to help me they all turned me away and said go here or there and my friends say the same to me go here or there but no one wants to help me themselves. i am disabled i can not work. just want to know all the possibilities i have if any in doniphan to go to for help and not be turned away. whats a person suppossed to do if can not work and have no roof over their head or food or money or anything. i am beginning to grow hopeless. i don't think i can possibly handle another cold damp night out there. useing a friends computer but the friend is unable to help me further. when i leave his house in a few minutes i have to go back outside to sleep in the woods. and i am afraid with all the deer hunters out there.

Are you male or female? That will be an important starting question.

There is a little house up near the 7th Day Adventist Church that gives away free clothing on Thursday. They probably have shoes too. If you are disabled you are receivng a check probably, either now or in the future.

You might try using the money to find a room somewhere to rent from a friend. There should be enough in a disabiliy check to help you along if you are not spending it all on drugs. Or buy a good tent and a coleman heater you can use in a tent and live in the woods or on the river. You will have good clear water most of the time on Current River. You can get some old metal pots and build an outside camp fire and cook and heat water. That is if you disability isn't in your movement. There is also a rescue place at Poplar Bluff that has sleeping quarters for men.

MAYBE this isn't a bs story. This type of thing DOES happen. Just because a person is disabled, doesn't mean they have been approved for disability yet. Sometimes that takes years to get a favorable decision from Social Security Disability. For one thing, you have to have lots of medical records that prove your disability. If you have no income & no medicaid or insurance, it's hard to go the doctor & specialists you need to. I know this from experience as I myself am disabled, been denied Medicaid, can't afford health insurance & even if I could, they wouldn't cover my heart disease or COPD as they would consider them PRE-EXISTING.

So, give this guy/gal a break. This may be the truth. It does not mean he or she is a bad person, only that they are falling through the cracks.

If you are a woman, you can try the women's shelter on Summit Street. If you are a male, then the closest shelter is in Poplar Bluff.

The question is...why did family and friends turn them away?

What I really dislike about most of the people who post on Topix is the unconcealed hate that they feel for other people. If the original post is not a setup it is unfortunate. And there may be nothing realistic that can be done because some people do fall through the cracks in the social safety net, mostly due to their own failures and incompetency. That's right, most failures fail because they continually make bad choices in life. Just because they do make such bad choices does not, however, justify treating them inhumanely or exuding a feeling of contempt for them as people. You have to realize that many people who continually fail at the game of life are either physically and/or mentally incompetent; they can't hold jobs and have social skills that are so deficient that no one wants to be around them. It is a wonder that a lot more of these people are not violent criminals since they have so little to lose. I am not advocating that we all become the enablers of everyone who is a failure in life, but I would like to see a whole lot more of you who would realize that, but for the grace of God, and better DNA and childhood parenting, you might have ended up in the same boat. Have a little sympathy for your fellow human beings and stop glorifying how good you are in relation to the less fortunate.
wow that was close

You should also realize, most of these post are bullcrap and we get tired of it and lash out at them!Mostly the ones that just start a topic and never repost!

They are either a druggie or thief. They've done something terrible that family don't want them.
