The National Weather Service predicts Current River will be at major flood stage (22 feet) or greater between this evening and Thursday morning. The crest is expected to be 24 feet at about 7 pm Wednesday evening. This will make it the fifth largest flood in history just behind the 24.11 ft. level recorded in 2008. I heard on the scanner just a bit ago that the water on B Hwy was now off the road way. Remember though that with the way it is still raining it may rise there again. I pray everyone will be careful. There are a lot of people out there taking silly risks and causing more headache than needed at this time. They block a road and it seems that it means nothing to a lot of people. It is not safe to cross through even what you may think is not much water. Just 6" can get you hurt or killed.
The many officers, storm watchers, fireman, and other public servants in this area have been out there working their tails off tonight. I thank them and hope more will do the same.
I had heard earlier, not on the scanner, but from someone, that they heard the river is expected to crest at 35.2 feet in the morning. I guess that was wrong, I am hoping it was anyway. It is already at 24.8 from what I am told. However, you know how information can get twisted when it is passed down. It is better to wait and see.
I pray for all those who are being affected by this adversely. I guess that would be all of us really in one way or another. Or from one severity to another. Those who live in the community and hate to see it suffer to the extreme, those who left their homes and what they owned behind, those who were evacuated, and those who stayed behind who now are having to be rescued. Pray for all tonight. God bless.

Should have seen the River in the 1952 or 53/ it was
up to the wall at the courthouse. you could step off the top of the wall into a boat. Hasn't been quite that high since but has come close.

I remember one year, many years ago, my family rented that house there beside Whiteside's across from the police station on Willow from the Griffin's. I had a concern about flooding and asked Mrs. Griffin about whether the house had been flooded before. She assured me that it had never had water in it. We moved out of the house a few months later and and not long afterwards, in the fall of that year, the water flooded that house almost to the eaves. That was when it flooded Fred's so bad and did almost get up to the courthouse stairs.

I can remember this, and that was before the land was filled in and other buildings built in the flood plain.

I know many highways and roads are blocked due to the water covering the road, I just wanted to let everyone know Don't under any circumstance try to drive thru water over the road. You never really know how deep it is in the middle and you could be swept away. If you are flooded in to the point it's coming close to your home call the police if you can. Be safe everyone all of you are in my prayers.

The worse flood recorded was in the early 1900's and in 1982 it crested at around 28 foot. Which put water in the basement of the courthouse.
