I was wondering if Doniphan has any ordinances concerning continuously barking hound dogs? We live in a lovely subdivision inside city limits and for some reason, someone has constructed dog pens and inside each is a loud-all day long barker. We also love dogs but, why are we, as well as other neighbors subjected to this day-long noise pollution? The owners are rarely home so we supposed that they got the dogs for the neighbors to get to listen to. Suggestions anyone?

I suggest you buy ear plugs, move out of city limits, get a tampon to stop your nose from bleeding if you are the one that poisoned my dogs. And be man or woman enough to put your name with what you posted.

Unfortunately this is a true situation. So would it help to complain to the police? The mayor lives in the same neighborhood and you would have to be deaf not to hear these dogs. What we can't understand is why would someone be so inconsiderate of their neighbors that they would put a kennel of hound dogs in their back yard? ORDINACES? Maybe you should move out of city limits. You are the one who created the problem. Maybe you should take a poll and just see how your neighbors feel. In a neighborhood you shouldn't ruin the quality of life for your neighbors and truly not care. When you live in town, common sense has to take over sometimes, that is, if you want to be a "neighbor" and not just a resident.

i totally agree with totally agree.
the key phrase in your post is 'common sense'.
we as a nation have become a 'me' people.
i have the right to disturb you if i want.
i have the right to be rude if i want to.
me me me.
it's only going to get worse.
the me generation is raising children to be the same
or worst they them.
you speak of common sense,
that will have to be taught outside the home.

I happen to live with my yard in close proximity to the dogs and I feel someone just simply doesn't like dogs. I was home all day yesterday and never heard these dogs bark once. At first they did bark but now it is very random and the family seems to try and stop it when they do. They are very good neighbors to us and have been for many years, I was even asked if the dogs bothered my wife and I and infomed them no so I am quite certain if they bother you, you should talk it over with the young woman who lives there.

I live out in the country , and my neighbors all have dogs.
but there is one dog that keeps getting in everybody trash. It knocks our trash cans over and scatters trash everywhere. I think the dog owner should keep the dog pinned up when they are not home.

Its alright if they keep complaining about it I'll just go get some more hounds and tie them up In our back yard and they can have a few more to complain about!lol

That's good, I could use the extra target practice.

Unfortunately now, I have family who live in Sunny Acres and I was visiting over this holiday weekend. I really can't get over the fact that someone would be so inconsiderate of others in the neighborhood but, I also can't believe the authorities don't do something about the noise from these dogs. I was told that the mayor and a city councilman also live in the same neighborhood! I do like dogs and had a good size house dog for many years but, where does someone get-off being so dis-respectable to others? Who has more rights here, the dogs, who are doing what dogs do, or the people who have no choice about the noise?

I was in this neighborhood too all weekend outside too and I never, not even once heard these dogs bark, so you must either live in this families back yard or just want these dogs gone. And obviously they do not bark enough to bother the councilman or the mayor. Also I am pretty sure no law is being broken here so why would the authorities be involved??? Dogs bark sometimes ...there are two more dogs in the upper corner of the neighborhood they bark so does the big dog that lives next door to the mayor. Do you really have a problem or are you just looking to start something? That family is not disrespectful as a matter of fact I'm sure if you had trouble they would be one of the first neighbors to come to your aid.

Seems to me it's looking to be just one person causing a huge fuss when it's obvious other neighbors are posting about the dogs not being an issue...I'm sure if it came down to it this nosey neighbor would never fess up to being the "topix crybaby" if confronted face to face. Also last I checked topix isn't a place to solve legal issues or the matter of barking dogs..grow a pair confront your neighbor and be done with the issue...and quit putting other people up to posting topic to defend your pathetic attempt to downing a perfectly respectable family!

I live in that neighborhood, I have 2 dogs that are in a large fenced yard. They will bark, if someone is walking past our home.... Our neighbors have 8 dogs, confined to small pens, very close to our home. They bark CONSTANTLY.... Because they are stuck in 5 x5 cages 24/7. It is not about being a bad person or bad neighbor to expect to be able to enjoy the home you pay good money for. It's not too much to ask to get a good nights sleep without being woke up 4 or 5 times a night by nuisance animals. For anyone who says buy ear plugs, you have never had 8 hound dogs 10 feet from your bedroom window! I would love to know if there are limits to the number of animals you can have in city limits.

I think city ordinances limit people to 5 dogs if they live in the city limits. Call city hall and they should tell you.
