Charissa,
I would like to know what your plans are for reopening the bridges? I am on the fence about who to vote for and since I've had a long discussion with your opponent and he outlined his plans for me, I would like to hear yours. I guess you could say I am a bit hesitant about voting for you because you father Carmine has been an Alderman in our Ward, City Treasurer and he knew well before any of the residents did about the conditions of the bridges and failed to act responsibly on behalf of the residents he represented. You are his daughter and I have a hard time believing that anything will change...as they say, blood is thicker than water...
Please let myself and the other voters know your plans.
Thank you

Let me just interject this: a single alderman can do very little to get the bridges open. It will take the whole Council and new administration to get this done. I also live in the 2nd ward and I have these same questions but I know it will take more than one person no matter the plans of anyone.

Yes that is true but it takes a LEADER to LEAD that effort and I have not seen any Leadership in that effort before or after the bridges were closed. Charissa and her party should not use the bridges in their advertisement materials if she/they haven't developed a plan on moving forward to reopen them. IDOT has forced them closed...has anyone thought of what we are going to do when the Water Reclamation District takes us to court to either repair them or take them down for fear they will fall into the Cal-Sag??? Think people! Their needs to be a Capital Funding program developed for the city to keep its infrastructure in a state of good repair. I have never heard any BI elected official raise these concerns which concern me...

Mike Janko has been the Municipal Chair for sometime, he has worked closely with Robinson Engineering both were aware this problem existed because IDOT has repeatedly inspected both bridges. With all of the $$$$ dollars going into the general fund it certainly appears as though no funds were set aside for the bridge project over the years. However, Mark Potoska, Municipal Chair should have demanded funds be set aside along with Carmine Bilatto, Treasurer, and Mike Anastasia, Finance Director. Were they all looking the other way? Rubber Stamping? Bobbling?
They know what they have done has not been in the best interest of the community, taxpayers, or the public.

Bobby Rita has the funds for the bridges ready to go as soon as Blue Island Independent Party is elected to office. It is in your interest to do so.

It is our best interest to do what??? Bonny Rita is already in office, elected by the people of the areas he represents (including BI). If what you say is true, why is he holding out on the people who voted him into office??? If that is the kind of person he is, then you my friend are not very bright to post it on Topix for all to see...

With all do respect, I am most interested in hearing from the Charissa and/or the Independent Party on their plans to get the bridges reopened...Unless you are running as a candidate of the BIIP, I would not speak on their behalf.

That's what I'm beginning to believe. They are probably banking on their glossy photo ads that MAKE them look professional.

Bobby Rita has secured the money to build a new bridge. Finance chairman Mark potoska would rather divert the bridge money to other projects. Like the millions of dollars for JAWA.

JAWA Alt. Director Mark Potaska, should have focused his energy and efforts on getting the Division St. Bridge open instead of introducing the ordinances for the incinerator, higher taxes, home rule, and all of the other harmful things including, pursuing the crippled Jawa project that is costing consumers $1.5 MILLION in Blue Island alone.
(The Cal Sag trail is securing donations for the Chatham St. Bridge.)

Ive been living under the Division Street Bridge with the Rust Devil and $1.5 Mil is all we needed to match funds provided by the State and Feds to get the bridge under Construction. Potaska failed as an Alderman, Chair of Finance Committee and as Alt. Director for Blue Island to JAWA. Now he wants to be Clerk? Not to mention increasing License Fee's for local resturants and taverns. Be careful about giving him the clerks office he has supported the squandering of $1.5 Mil. He will only bring more of the same.

Diversion/holding off of funds is a common addiction of the likes of Bobby Rita, Don Peloquin etc... with the blessing of course of the very loyal to the present caretaker of city hall, Alderman Domingo Vargas. If Rita has secured the money for the bridges, why start the project after the BIIP is elected? It's not his own personal funds. He is holding the bridge hostage for his own selfish political agenda and of course to get himself elected again and again for multi positions of tax payer supported salaries. Isn't that very clever?

It doesn't matter who is elected, the people can expect and surely demand those funds to be used for the very purpose it was secured for.

If you talk with the residents that actually own houses down in that area they like the bridges closed it cuts down on traffic and crime.

27 years too late for your Domingo? He did nothing for the bridges (or even just insisting or standing up for it all those years), what makes you think he can do it this time? He has been a loyal yes man to Peloquin .Rita is his new boss now just after Peloquin. And Rita will continually hold the bridge money for as long as there is an election with him running.

Why has it taken his party until election time to commit. Most of them are already in office??

...and I sit here and wait for a response from Charissa and/or the BIIP about what their plans are and yet there is still silence. I know they read these posts...
