...the Jolly Trolley, when there was the High Low Foods Grocery Store and a Jewel on 144th St (in Riverdale), National Tea Groceries on a 142nd ST (in Dolton) Krogers on Indiana Ave., the railroad tracks that were along Greenwood Road, the "Rocket Slide" in Dolton Park, IC Pssenger trains screaming through Riverdale before Amtrak and the olive drab green IC commuter trains before the double deckers came along! Going to the Thompson Clinic on Lincoln Ave, the "horse farm" before the old "Eagle" grocery store was there. When K Mart opened in 1970...

Don't forget the old Dolton show on Saturday afternoons with the music studio giving a demo and how about the old wishing well store in old downtown Dolton. When did the old Fred's restaurant close--I loved the spaghetti there. Does anyone remember way back when there used to be a small pee wee golf place on Indiana avenue around 145th street.

Was Fred's on 137th St in Riverdale? I heard of the Wishing Well-what kind of store was it? I don't remember the pee-wee golf place, but do remember riding bikes on the old ramps, curves, etc that were left behind from it! It became a garden center, then a series of ice cream places and few greasy spoon type of restaurants were in there too. A lot of railroad guys went there. Some other old business's along there (Indiana Av) were Dillman's Barbershop, Eddie's Trading Post, Tri-City Slot cars where the now gone Elks Club was. It was interesting all the stuff they had to do back then!

Fred's was on 137th, don't forget Schmidt's Colonial before it became Felix's. I remember the a little grocery store on 144th, the name was McLaughlins. They had penny candy, it was changed to B&K Food Mart, they had the best potato salad in their deli. There was a record store on Indiana ave and I think there was a dari queen where the super size cone was only 50 cents.

Did Fred's become Louis & Mario's? The Colonial Club was a nice place-too bad all of the old time 137th ST is gone, but there are a lot of photos of it on Webshots!

Thanks KTD!
Does anyone remember the railroad salvage store in the railroad yard just off of Indiana Ave.(behind Indiana Lumber and the "Potato Factory)?" The owner of that store also had a Tuxedo Rental near Sibley & Halsted.

What happened to Indiana Avenue and 144th Street (Ivanhoe)? There were some great restaurants on both streets/and west of the IC tracks on 144th Street there was Vesuvio's pizza. We also had some great pizza at House of Pizza, they had great fish and chicken!! But my question is what week-end is the Izzak Walton Shrimp Boil? I thought it was in August?

You still have Andy's at 144th & Indiana! The Shrimp Boil at Isaac Walton is usually the 1st or 2nd weekend in August.
Some other restaurants along Indiana Ave was Joe's Restaurant in between the old Towne Liquors, later Sola's and the old Dolton Elks Club (which was where the Tri-City Slot Car tracks were). The Elks had a weekly Saturday night Seafood Supper. That's all gone being replaced by the apartments for Seniors.
Browns Chicken was at Sibley & Indiana. There was the Coney Island Hot Dogs across the street (Sibley) from Browns Chicken. There was a real nice looking blonde working there too at one time! There was Artese Pizza at around 141st & Indiana, along with a Chinese Restaurant. There was a KFC near there too. I remember seeing an older guy, when I was a kid, walking north with a bucket of chicken. A train is blocking the crossing so he set the "bucket" on a flat car, hops up onto and over the flat car, grabbed his chicken and kept walking north without skipping a beat! As kids sitting in Dad's car waiting for the train to move it was the funniest thing! Our dad gave us a stern warning not to try that one!
There seemed to be a cheap hamburger joint at Leyden Ave (137th)& Indiana where they had burgers at "White Castle" prices.
I had to think about "House of Pizza," that was on Chicago Rd., right? 144th had Brunetti's Pizza which was moved in with Michael J's when he consolidated that in with the bar. Too bad that's gone along with the old Ben Franklin (Family Dollar).

There was a small grocer along the west side of Chicago Road near Isaac Walton. The owner was a friendly Italian fellow who told me, as a kid, the two teams he knew of well, when he came to America, were the New York Yankees and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish! His store was a destination on our bike rides as kids. He had the coldest 16 oz. bottles of pop there too, and every Crush flavor there was. Somehow, this plastic bottle stuff is not the same!

That was at 144th & Chicago Rd, and I remember going there too! The little grocery store I'm thinking of was around 148th & Chicago Rd, on the other side of the street. I'm not sure if the building is still there or not. Maybe it became a day care or pre-school?

Anyone recall the name of the old butcher shop on 144th ST in Riverdale, around Wentworth/Clark? It was on the same side of the street as White Hen.

Has anyone mentioned the little grocery store that was on Lincoln Avenue near Langley (I think) right by the curves? It was run by a little old lady who lived upstairs. I remember riding my bike over just to buy the penny candy.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Taurus

If you've been neglecting that special someone in your life over the past few days because you've been so busy with the festivities, try to make up for it today. Maybe you could have some time alone with them, or perhaps you simply need to remind them how much you love them. Don't be afraid to open up your heart to them, and to let them do the same to you.
