Dolton taps sheriff's office to help fight corruption in village

May 31, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Chicago Sun-Times

The Cook County Sheriff's Office - in a first-of-its-kind move - will act as an independent inspector general for the village of Dolton to help it deal with rampant corruption.

I'm reminded of all the nasty posts on here during election time defending Lewis and saying he should be re elected. I have yet to see one person with the courage to come on here and say they were wrong. Some of us tried to tell you all but apparently you all were used to a lied to, robbed, cheated, and taken advantage of Dolton. This news actually saddens me and while I wish I could help, I owe my family more in where they live than this village is able to offer. All you people that like Lewis and the department heads and staff that did nice things for you all...look at what the rest of us got. I have heard enough jokes about me living in Dolton to long for the day when they can't say that anymore.

What the hell was Rogers doing for the last two years as a trustee?
Was he just collecting a paycheck?
The Feds need to look past Lewis and start with the Shaws...that's when the crap started!

Maybe cook county should check Dolton's old Inspector General Bob Shaw first, you know the witness for silver shovel case. Is that why he gets away with everything he's done. Also where is that big cannon at that use to be at Dolton Park, Check with Paul Campbell at Public Works. He was the Park Supt. when it disapeared.

Everybody knows the mayor was allowed to make decisions without board input/votes. One of the biggest criticisms of Rogers was the questions he asked at meetings. Even Bert said in the paper, nobody asked more questions than Riley Rogers The actual decisions however were generally up to Lewis and if the issue did require a vote...I don't remember him not getting votes on what he wanted.

So why does Rogers show the new young trustees and Smith no love when they question him the same way he did Lewis. Robert ask to see a full report (samething Roger was doing when he sat in that same seat to Lewis) and choice not to accept a bill and Roger blowup calling out his team.

Why would I know? I'm not Riley Rogers. Why don't you tell me since you apparently were there?

This crap dates back to Hart and Peck the former Mayors as well as Shaw and Lewis. Riley was probaly doing what everyone else was during those two years. WHOS TO SAY.

Okay, So above all that is goin on, Dolton is now a car dealership selling two Chyrsler 300. on the lawn of the fountain. What is this place turning into.a Big JOKE!

There is not as much crime as the mayor claims to warrent additional help from the sheriffs department. Where is the 10 police he was hiring so fast. You demote the fire chief and hire people who do not live anywhere near the village limits.

Well I have to disagree with you on the crime issue. I have police friends that work in the city, one used to work for CHA and the other works in Roseland...they would tell you that yes there is that much crime here. I've heard different people, at different times, call Dolton "South Roseland." If you look at the news alone, we have plenty of crimes that have occurred here that made the paper/tv: including the UIC grad student shot in his driveway, the attempted carjacking of a sheriff at Food 4 Less, the twin teenagers from Dolton that were forcibly pimping teenage girls out of the motel on Torrence, the dog fighting ring, Burge's incident with that lady from village hall, the Thornridge student that was killed on Sibley, the shooting at Baba's right next door to Thornridge, the string of carjackings and robberies where the poor man was killed in his driveway...this is all off memory. I don't know how familiar many of you are with running a local government but you do not hire department heads because they live in the town. In fact, some places don't require them to move in town and if they do, you usually get 12-18 months to move in. Dolton has done it's own thing for so long that when it does do things as other towns do them..everyone is surprised and shocked like it's weird. It is customary that department heads especially, that are not internal hires, do not live in the town they are hired. If you think I'm wrong, look into it. Residency does not work for towns like Dolton, it hurts them because unless they already live here...talented applicants do not want to move here just to work here when they can work in a village that is more financially stable and is a better place to live. Imagine if you got offered a job, not a great paying job, but a job in the Altgeld Gardens but you lived in a nicer area. Then they tell you that you have to live in the Gardens to keep the job. There are people in the Gardens who are trying their best to get out. You will lose your best applicants because you want to them to live there as well.

All this talk about nothing, ALL EMPLOYEES should live in Dolton. If they did they would care and do a good job. That is the way it was years ago. These employees don't give a crap about doing you a service because at 5 they go to another town. Hire your own people that live here and see that they will do good because they will see you out and about town. Some things should remain the same believe me I know from experience. I bet you if all 30 police officers lived in Dolton crime would be gone. WHY YOU ASK. The police would not want to put their family and friends at risk, so they would not be RAY CHARLES, OR STEVIE WONDER. THEY WOULD SEE EVERYTHING WE SEE. THEN THEY WOULD STEP UP AND PUT THESE VIOLATORS IN JAIL. Just saying. DOLTON JOBS FOR DOLTON RESIDENTS.

Don't go draggin Don Hart into corruption! It was only after he took office he found that Peck knew he was dying and behind the whole village's back, had thirteen checkbooks he left behind. Hart straightened out the fiscal mess and encouraged the remaining residents to stay in Dolton. After his death, we all left. Shaw was as crooked as the day is long. He and Robert were the biggest show boaters around, and used the money on casinos. There are no people who would live in Dolton, so you had your career guys who stayed on the jobs such as cops, some village workers, and etc. Who could blame them for their pensions, and who knew better than every corner, from on top of the streets to the sewers below? You guys are in trouble in Dolton....it's broke. They borrowed to make the last payroll....so now what? The money well dried up. The taxpayers left. All you can do is sit back and pretend you don't live in South Roseland.

By the way,... as far as crime goes, you all just don't get it. Folks moved out after Daley tore down the towers for poor folks. Those people hit the suburbs and started stealing from Dolton residents for their drug habits. People moved out in massive numbers from the early '80s on. Enjoy the crime....

You agree 100% and you call it the truth. Name five nice towns around us that have residency requirements. If you can name one even, go ahead.

People don't provide good service because of where they live. They provide good service because they are good employees and/or they will lose their jobs. I have worked for multiple villages. Not one time were the majority of my coworkers residents in the village and each one of those villages would have cut your rope and fired you if you treated their residents poorly. Former mayor Lewis was a resident of the village while he ran it into the ground. Since when does living in the town ensure job performance?

I don't do drugs. You asked why Riley Rogers did something at a meeting. I responded that I wouldn't know because I'm not him and I was not at the meeting. You have so many comments you make but when you get called out you got nothing to say but I'm popping pills. How mature of you.

Residency is antiquated because it just doesn't work. If someone comes to work and isn't doing their job, get rid of them. Period.

You speak of mature but your the one acting like kid (everytime i say something you don't reply) I reply but i'm not going to always lower my self respect to someone that don't go to village meeting, which makes me think your one of those salty employee at the village. consiguete una vida
