This is not an exempt organization.

Buyer beware. If you donate, just know that this has not been approved. Having an application does not give you the approval to conduct business as an exempt organization.

If you collect money on behalf of an orangization that claims to be exempt, and it is not, you will be liable for fraud.

If this crew isn't registered with the NYS Attorney General's Charity Bureau and have a 501(c)(3) letter from the IRS you are correct - they are not a Non-Profit organization. Any donations are not tax deductible. If the are not an approved 501 c3, tax returns and quarterly financials are not submitted. How does a person who donates $ know where the $ is going? It sounds like a phone call to the Charities Bureau may be in order.

If you want to know the facts, call Bart directly. He will be more than happy to show you the paperwork on the 501(C) status.

@Kidding, why would you want to go and start trouble? If you are not spending your money to participate..Why the hell do you care? Bart is only doing a positive thing, and has helped many people. Why not use your time more useful, and leave him alone. This world has enough jerks, dont add to it.

Bart is doing a positive thing? What would that be? I've heard a lot of negative things about this guy and all he seems to be good at is overcharging ppl to help them lose weight. SCUMBAGGG

Before you start accusing an organization/people of things know your facts. As stated above, if you are in doubt call Bart & ask to see the paperwork. All the appropriate paperwork had been filed and APPROVED! Why do you feel the need to try to destory something that can be very good for this community?

While I am appreciative for all the work the Munions have done for our community, the fact remains they don't have a 501-c-3 status. I spent this morning contacting the NYS Charity Bureau concerning the status with the NYS Attorney General's office. No paperwork has been submitted under that name to the main office of the Charity Bureau located in NYC. This office only has a one week backlog of applications to be placed on line. They were kind enough to check on the newest applications - no Stoney Creek Community Center.

Likewise, call was made to the Non-Profit entity of the IRS. They have no evidence of an approval or an application filed for 501-c-3 status for Stoney Creek Community Center, Dolgeville. No EIN has been granted as a result.

Perhaps what you saw was a business license given under the new name of the enterprise. That doesn't constitute a non profit status.

My point is, just because an organization says they are non-profit and donate $$ to community activites, doesn't mean they are a legal non profit. Any money donated to their cause - not for paying memberships because that is not a donation as you receive a service for the money- is not tax deductible. To elicit donations under the guise of being a 501-c-3 non profit organization is illegal and punishable under Federal Law. Then NYS steps in and can do the same thing.

Beware of organizations who solicit donations. They may not be what the appear to be.

There is something about Bart that just doesn't seem kosher. I am not sure I would trust this guy. Remember a guy named MADOFF, hummmmm and many trusted him as well and where did that get them. I'd look more carefully into his background before trusting him with money. Shall we say WOLF is SHEEPS clothes !!

come on people are serious, you negative people really need to get out of the house.. Bart and his wife are amazing people, Bart has changed so peoples life's and I think your hangup is that your jealous because your name is not in the towns mouth.. His is.. Get out of your house come on over and see what he does.. As for the status of the Community center having the correct paper work I don't no, but I do no that you calling the IRS is bull.. Ive done Income taxes for many years legally by the way and I no for a fact you cant just call them up and get that info plus getting a hold of anyone in the IRS is impossible.. so my advice to you is stop being so jealous and let the rest of us enjoy this... And as far as him over charging, if that is the case then why does he have 44 members to the biggest looser and countless other joining his gym.. get your facts straight before you run you mouth..

We are a newly formed NYS Not-for-Profit Corporation that goes into effect on 15 Oct. All our proper and legal paperwork is filed and/or approved. I welcome any one to come to our place of business and inspect our records as I have done for the Village of Dolgeville.

I hope you success in your life and good health,

Cheerfully,

Bart Murnion

While I also believe that the Murnions have done us a great service, and I also wish them well in the business. It remains that the community center is not official.

Let's be objective. As Mr. Murnion stated above "We are a newly formed NYS Not-for-Profit Corporation that goes into effect on 15 Oct. "
Today is the 10th. Perhaps they don't list the organizations until they are official. I'm quite sure each not for profit has a board, maybe some of those folks would be happy to step up and chime in on Mr. Murnion's behalf. Bart-you've done a lot here, hang tough bud.

So dialogue with him. Fear comes from ignorance. Although he and I differ in a few of our philosophies and approaches, i've found him to be a very open and engaging individual. I am sure he will welcome you if you would like to learn his intent.
