Cleveland is beautiful but not as friendly as could be. When Mayor King was still in office and Wayne Cole still alive, things were much differnt than they are now.
You do have to be in the "Clique". there are good people too tho, I know some really great people from Cleveland. DSU keeps the spirit young, and there are some great get togethers like the Octoberfest and the Crosstie and the new Italian Festival. Be sure that you check out Southern Grill for awesome breakfast and luck buffet... |

1 Lets not forget a Captain in the police department. Someone who is not allowed to go on calls because of his attitude. Also runs for an elected office on the taxpayers time and money. And is solely responsible for the killing of over 100 animals at the shelter. So other than the friends and family I have there I could care less of the place. So many others I have talked to feel the same. So if you move there be sure to bring a rope so you can pull yourself out of the rut you will find yourself in. |

Have you followed the Cleveland News LEader? Looks like there is an "accounting" coming... LOL
|

Yeah, I like the Cleveland News Leader. Cleveland is really a nice city. It's only ugly when you lift the hood. The Bologna Performing Arts Center brings in some nice shows from time to time. There are a lot of nice festivals. It's a great place to visit. Now, living there can get interesting. There are a lot of cliques, she's right about that. I hear the university losing some good teachers because of the area snobbery. But, I'm sure they keep some who like the small town environment.

sounds like some people know what they are talking about

But I live here now. I haven't lived in a place yet that did not have old money or clicks. The smaller a place is, the more pronounced the old and new, and larger place is the more infused it gets with new blood lessening the effect of the old strongholds. There are always going to be the annointed and the aliens, but if you let this dictate your life, you'll have to keep moving. The Delta is classic for old money, debutante, blue bloods, etc. But they are not the only people to make up a community. Seems that if enough people in a community voice themselves, the blue bloods are outnumbered and common sense can prevail over favorites. However, just putting down a community is unfair to those that make it good and aapproachable to newcomers. Some has to do with attitude coming into a new place.
One thing I recently hated to see at our Crosstie event was an artist that was asked by a woman passing by if he from the Delta and he said he lives in Jackson. She threw her head so high a bird accident would have entered her nose, and I thought it so rude, for the community I said I don't know where she is from and he just looked down and said it's okay. But is it? But that attitude could be displayed at many local events throughout this State where people cut their regions off from other regions. |

1 I note, alot of those we envy have less than we think. If you care about appearances, great, but the richest people don't show it and they can be found everywhere. I'm not rich, but if I were because I was succesful then penalize me? What if I am a doctor, when it is so hard to attract people to serve the Delta? It's easy to sound bitter. You can't put down the whole because you know bad apples.. |

In reference to Really's comments or should I say Smart*** comments to Guest from Dexter, MO. I lived in Cleveland from 1977 to 2004 and Guest is correct in his statements. Yes there are alot of good people there but there are also alot of snobs too. You know the kind that turn their noses up to you when you say hey to them. I'm always the same friendly person no matter what and dont see how other people can show so little respect to others. Thats what you get in Cleveland. They have a corrupt city administration led by Mr. Lindsey. They waste money that is brought in by the taxpayers. They let the animal shelter go to the dumps with Mike Mccain over it(what a joke he is). They build buildings hoping some company will come in instead of fixing the roads. Lets not forget about the tax that the city kept receiving and cant account for it. The Chief of Police Charles(Buster) Bingham is a very good guy and glad he received that position. Dont like what happened to the other COP, but that is another example of the corruption of Mr. Lindsey.
I dont live there no more(glad of that), but I do still know alot about what is going on there. Cleveland of today is not what it was when I was growing up thats for sure. |

Gutsy but good. Thanks for being honest and upfront! All true I really like the new COP too, I hope he doesn't get soured to the job by administration, and I hope he does not get shafted. He has earned his stripes so to speak, and i hope he uses them for the benefit of the community. He went to the shelter the other day personally to give a dog water after hours, that is awesome.
