Maybe if our leaves were picked up in a timely manner then our trees would thrive. I'm no arborist, but any fool knows trees need oxygen, sunlight and water to feed their roots. Not four weeks of piled up leaves on our parkways causing mold buildup and a lack of nutrients.

In my opinion leaf vacuum is not a necessary service. We should just brown bag them & let the garbage recycle pick them up like they do our grass clippings. This the least necessary service to complain about.

Well that is your opinion. My opinion, is that we have an incompetent mayor that praises rain barrels and trees. While his leaf removal program actually kills trees. Ironically the trees that he wants us to plant on Arbor Day will only result in more leaves. haha

False, leaves decomposing on the parkway is actually a good thing for all trees. It provides quite a lot of nutrients for the roots that the tree absorbs and softens the ground for the roots to grow and expand. That is only a extremely small portion of what actually happens when leaves are left on the ground to decompose. If what you stat is the case then we would not have forests of any kind were their are fall and winter months.

Agreed! What a useless service, we should either bag them or burn them like other municipalities

Look it up genius. Nitrogen from decomposing leaves is great for soil. Piled up leaves = bad for trees.

What is so hard to bag the leaves? Are you that lazy after you rake the leaves in a pile by the curb you can't bag them for the recycle truck
Thank You

I agree with you about Mayor Rita but the leaf collection isn't needed.

Alderman Hawley wants more volunteerism to combat the city debt. Maybe you could shovel snow up an down Western for health and fun! Starting with the BIIP!
