Raiders and OF baseball wish they were independent. Neither organization would survive if they were not supported with sweetheart deals from our park district. The park district is owned by taxpayers! I have been told Raiders lease that field for something ridiculous like $ 1 a year or $10 a year-
What is the real market value of that field? For usage and damage to the practice feilds used nightly? What is the market value for usage and upkeep if all the baseball fields in this town? And the space their batting cage is on?
Neither club would exist without taxpayer money - no way could they afford to pay market fees to use thise feilds. Independent my A**!!!
I guess you don't understand that part of the responsibility of the Park District is t provide land and space for programs the residents want. are you aware the Raiders built and maintain the feild themselves, including the lights which they pay the electric for. The same goes for the baseball association, they built and maintain the fields at their own cost, no help from the P.D. By the way, the P.D. never bought any of this property, it was granted to them, or leased from the schools at almost no cost. I understand that posters have to write whatever makes them feel important, which they really aren't.

Look at the pictures of the Conferences that the Illinois Association of Park Districts sets up. My point still is that they should have selected a more modest venue. OFPD did not pick the Hyatt as the place to hold the Conference.
When you look through the pictures if you don't see any of the Oak Forest Park District Commissioners or the Director of Park Programs, does that mean they did not attend? This all is another key item about the town as a whole, when the commissioners make comments about attending this conference, they seem to assume it is something they must do to make the parks and programs better, but can you show us the positives in their attending this event? You keep asking about the positives, yet I cannot in all good intentions see the positives here. I will tell you I can see the Park District Employees attending this event to network and gain insight into new and upcoming programs, or to see how to utilize their facilities in a more economic fashion, but if you never see change in a organization is all the comments to justify the attendance just more of smoke screen to justify what they were getting into once they were elected? It is tiring to see how shallow the explanations of attendance are, and it may not be much money or it all may be budgeted, but because you budget does not mean you have to spend your budget or am I wrong in that assumption? All taxing bodies run by paid or unpaid elected officials need to show they have the best interests of the folks they serve, when you spend money budgeted or not it may take away funding from a program that the public wants to have happen.

It is just odd in light of the most recent history that these Commissioners need to justify attending this event, if they would only identify how it will better serve the community with new park facilities, more reasonable programs and more choices for the public that use the parks, but alas no comments were uttered about those grand changes, why I don't know, but these commissioners are not even showing up to answer those type of questions, that sends a bad message out to the community.

Do these independent clubs pay the salaries of PD maintenance workers that pick up their beer bottles and pizza boxes at tower park and Foster school parking lot after nightly practices? No - so maybe they should clean up after themseves when done. That will help with the independence thing!

You have no idea what you are talking about. The garbage you mention is from the punks who frequent the parks at night. There is no beer allowed from the people watching the games, and it is strictly enforced. Could be you are one of the violators who leave their junk out there. It would be the responsibility of P.D. to patrol the parks even if their were no games, or would you prefer they didn't, maybe the police should kick you out of the parks after hours.

Haha...you have no idea.... Ha ha Coach I've called the police on Raider Coaches and parents that sit in there cars and drink after practice in the Foster school lot. I have also called the school district office and let them know who was responsible for the beer bottles laying all over. Garbage cans overflowing with beer bottles.

I live there I can see who's drinking in the parking lot. Kids had to walk through that mess to get to school in the morning. They even had pizza boxes laying there. Slobs!

When my son played for Raiders several years ago he forgot his helmet one night after practice so we went back to look for it. Lots of cars in the parking lot by the raider building so when we couldn't find his helmet we knocked on the door. It was sbout 9 pm One of his coaches answered with a beer in his hand. Several coolers were in the hallway behind him.

Yes- very strictly enforced policy!!!

Hate to break the news to you, but you are a liar, and nobody will believe you. What is your problem, Guess your kid didn't get to play enough? That is usually the problem with bitter a-holes like you.

What an immature way to respond to someone pointing out an issue with your team- calling them a liar and a -hole. As a parent I can say you just gave credibility to all the stories we hear

Do your team a favor and stop posting

Guess you are a sucker for his drivel too. When you know a jerk is a liar, you are duty bound to expose them in the most forceful way. Posters don't really care about problems, they just want to see their name in print.

Again, you're not doing you or your team any favors by continuing to name call- and putting it out for the world to see- just because someone pointed out something you didn't agree with.

As a coach, aren't you suppose to be a positive role model?

Your conduct makes me question your maturity and how you professionally handle situations!

I've been involved with Raiders, Oak Forest Baseball Association and Girls Softball. There are constantly parents drinking at games, many times out of special marked bottles or cups. There are often board members drinking at these games. There are often off duty police officers drinking at these games. Do you want me to name names, Res?

Yes, name names. And are they leaving their cans on the ground? I think not.

This is a great deal of back and forth about some very strange and immature activities in the Public Parks. The messages that are being sent here have no bearing on the actions of the Park Commissioners! In fact, most organizations in Oak Forest, private or under the Park umbrella, pay user fees to the Park District. That is Raiders and Oak Forest Baseball also, in the past those two Private groups have been the sponsored arm of those activities in this community, although we also have Flag Football, but that is under the Park District umbrella and there have been Travel Groups for both Youth Baseball and Softball.

What we have now going on is a discussion about the activities of these current Park Commissioners. If those folks are not monitoring activities and Adult concerns in our Parks then not only are they not doing their job of promoting great programs, but controlling the Adult behaviors that some of you are concerned about here. In a 6 Year Park Term that these commissioners serve, some current commissioners are serving their 2nd Term, what great changes, new programs or new facilities have we seen? If you can tell us any then great, but if you cannot see any additional items, and these folks are attending these conferences, let's ask them what they are accomplishing in going to these functions? We have seen these folks add boys and Girls Lacrosse teams, sounds good, but not sure how those teams work and what facilities they need to use. It also has been a program that has had a shadow cast over it due to the Commissioners that started that program and what perks were received allegedly!

So let's get back to the Commissioners & the Park Employees an the attendance at a Conference that has yet to bear any fruit for change or improvement. This Park District is using the taxpayers funds for the facilities and programs, are they using them well or are they not? These Commissioners need to look at the improvement of the Parks and if it had not improved since they have been a commissioner, then it is time to vote them out, or maybe they should resign their spots to some folks that will not take these positions for granted!

Excellent post. Now you have hit upon another issue in our community. I don't know what it is, perhaps apathy? People don't seem to care to get involved. How often are these races contested? What about low voter turnouts? That is why these things happen.
