Buying a beverage during a conference dinner is WASTING money? You are all just nitpicking and grasping at straws to find something to complain about. Training and semininars and conference expenses are in every budget in every level of government or business or non profit organization. Let me know what all of your names are so that I can for sure vote for you next time because then we know for certain that you wouldn't spend a dime of the park budget money and pay for all of your conference expenses yourself while volunteering as a Commissioner. Be realistic.

Well at least we know the spending should be less at the conference this year with one commissioner not being able to attend.

Get your head out if your ass. If you think it's a beer, your a douche. That's a metaphor for what they are wasting.

that wasn't my question Random Thoughts, my question was why haven't you and the others screamed from the highest mountain your outrage at the conference expense this year since they have been going to this conference every single year for a long time? Why now? they have had the same amount budgeted for training and conferences going back a while but now all of a sudden it is stealing? Explain that. That was my question.
Rightfully, the revelations about the Royal Sopko's opened the doors for OF political dealings to be examined.
I would not be shocked if there will be a future article about money missing from Oak Fest. What will you say about that one. "This has been going on for a long time so why is everyone disappointed now?"

The only people that would be defending the park board members on this issue are park board members, so it's good to see the board is now involved in the conversation.

Hey Volunteers, I'm sick of hearing about how you volunteer all of your time with nothing in return. You and I both know that you are getting something in return. You are using your position to benefit your own family. You are using your position to benefit the Lacrosse program that you started. You are using your position to help position yourself as a "good guy". You are dirty, you know it, I know it.

If the commissioners were part of this conversation, don't you think they would be pointing out the positives that came out of this conference?

No, I don't believe they would be pointing out the positives. First, there are no positives. Second, they don't care what anyone thinks. They feel they deserve it, and that is all that really matters to them.

Not following you on this, why should we help with your costs? Congrats on her success in any case.

Also the sucking up to the admin is part of the problem. I think the kids would be better served if the parents held the admin more accountable.

So if they don't care what anyone thinks, why would they be on here trying to defend themselves?

Because they're stupid enough to think they can persuade the public with their idiotic excuses. But that only works on naive people like you. It's amazing the contortions you put yourself through just to rationalize corruption. Again, I say, I don't care how little was stolen, only how much. Any amount is too much.

You think I am naive, I think you are single-minded. In order for me to be naive, I would have to have absolutely no questions on what transpired.

Just curious, did the Commissioners from the Burbank Park District attend the Conference?

Look at the pictures of the Conferences that the Illinois Association of Park Districts sets up. My point still is that they should have selected a more modest venue. OFPD did not pick the Hyatt as the place to hold the Conference.

I have to wonder if this event is helpful and worth the money. From looking at the pictures, it just looks like a big party. Since OF is having budget issues, maybe this money could be better spent?
What would be the consequences of not participating in this costly get-together? Is this party benefiting the people of Oak Forest in any way??

The adult volunteers at the Oak Fest, can be seen behind the the beer trailers camped out and tipping away. Those are profits for the charities involved that they are chugging.

That reminded me of something I saw posted here over the summer, so I did a search.

This minor crap is rampant in every corner of city government, and its sad that it takes the Sopko incident to get people simply scratching the surface.

We really need some fresh blood running the show.

Someone from baseball and football are not staff members. Staff members are those that get a check from the park district, for instance a person in charge of preschools programs, youth programs, adult programs, senior programs, perhaps finance.

<quoted text>Which staff tho? Send someone from baseball and football, and then someone from another sport will say that their sport was not represented and therefore they gained nothing from it.
Guess we'll see what happens at the 2015 conference.

When are all the dummies going to learn what they are talking about before posting their drivel? Oak forest baseball & Raiders Football are independent orginizations and are not sponsored by the Park District. Quit posting just to see your name in print.

Raiders and OF baseball wish they were independent. Neither organization would survive if they were not supported with sweetheart deals from our park district. The park district is owned by taxpayers! I have been told Raiders lease that field for something ridiculous like $ 1 a year or $10 a year-
What is the real market value of that field? For usage and damage to the practice feilds used nightly? What is the market value for usage and upkeep if all the baseball fields in this town? And the space their batting cage is on?
Neither club would exist without taxpayer money - no way could they afford to pay market fees to use thise feilds. Independent my A**!!!

Thank you for that info "Taxpayer" & "Citizen". At least you had a tactful way of correcting me instead of flying off the handle and calling people names.
