The City of Blue Island (i.e. the tax payers) is being sued by a former fire fighter because our public health and safety commissioner John Rita decided he was above the rules. The civil service is a branch of governmental service in which individuals are employed on the basis of professional merit as proven by competitive examinations. These people have to prove to the community that they can actually do their jobs! The Blue Island Civil Service Commission, chaired by Loretta Hauschild is responsible for the fair distribution of jobs for our police and fire departments. The commission is regulated under Illinois state law 65 ILCS 5/Art. 10 Div. 2.1 heading) DIVISION 2.1. BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS and also bound by the collective agreements signed with the police/fire unions. These agreements are legal documents under the law.

Last summer, John Rita decided that none of this mattered. According to the court documents filed in federal court last month, John not only cut a qualified fireman who had played by the rules out of his job but bullied the civil service commission into accepting a list of personal political appointees for police and fireman jobs. Blue Island needs and deserves the best qualified police officers and firemen who have passed the exams and EARNED the privilege to work for Blue Island.

The Blue Island Civil Service Commission will meet on Wednesday night. Under Illinois law, The commission is an independent, apolitical governing body whose only concern is the fair treatment of our police and fireman. The people of Blue Island need these people on this commission to do their job.

John Rita has repeatedly disgraced himself as a public servant by appearing at city council and committee meetings and bullying people. Now his bullying has cost Blue Island its reputation and the tax payers a lot of money. This needs to stop. Today.

more lawsuits are coming from former employees read em and weep department heads. They just don't get it, that their power has limits and their treatment of others is going to cost the city, again!

Welcome to the twisted game of "Careers" and "Monopoly". When taxpayers loose and they will, the elected, the appointed and the department heads; still win because they keep their job, their title, their office.

How does this city let the qualified go by the hand of the unqualified?
How exactly does not following the rules, save our city money? It appears that these administrative moves have become failures, we as a community can not afford anymore of these failures.

Where taxpayers loose and the elected, appointed, and department heads win.
You may not like the game but you are now stuck in the middle with all of the other taxpayers.

Wake up M. You eventually lose your job, when the voters choose the next QUALIFIED candidate as mayor. We already know who is running and your boys are OUT!

Did you wake up yet Hawley? Do you see what the voters are thinking. Stop trying to tell us how qualified Rita is. None of us are buying your rhetoric.

You are an obnoxious city worker 101. You are mocking the tax paying voters with this ridiculous statement. Now behave yourself. You are making Domingo look like a fool.

His son has five years on Midlothian Fire Department and currently holds the rank of Deputy Chief. For the fist time ever Midlothian relaxed their residency rules for department heads. He lives in Oak Forest. The Ritas have clout.

Is this position in BI really worth having your children's reputations and professions discredited. Any decent parent with a good pension would walk away from their name being tarnished in this way. Do what's right for your family. These people have too much info on you and your brother. Walk away from BI. Do it for your and your children's reputations. Money shouldn't be your God.

We had hope for Mr. Hawley and his visions for our city. It seems he has aligned himself with the wrong party, one in which is not serving the community but themselves, families and aquaintances. Was it not ironic that Mr. J. Rita was the only candidate for such an important position within our city? How many qualified Blue Islanders could of used a postion like this to put food on their table, would of spent their earnings in Blue Island and paid taxes in Blue Island ? That must of been a very impressive resume or the administration believed that no one in our community had the intellect for such a position. Is this what the administration thinks of the very people that elected them into office? After years of hearing, keep it and spend it in Blue Island, the city let go of qualified hard working individuals that live and pay taxes in our community and only a short time after placing an individual that will not pay their taxes and spend it in Blue Island. This is a show of disrespect for all the loyal taxpayers of this community. Was this the price that had to be paid for not trusting our community to elect you into your position and a reliance on this party was needed? Providing jobs for unemployed relatives should not be the first priority. What about the empty Jewel store, the other empty store fronts and that decrepite gas station? Fill them and start generating a tax revenue. What about the broken down bridges and the deplorable roads that we all have to travel down on a daily basis. If the community thought things where so bad with the prior administration, they will soon see that they can get much more worse if this nepotism continues to be the priority of this new administration and true action is not taken now. This administration has 3+ years to start making decisions in the direction that this community will take, We pray that it will be in a direction that will benefit the community as a whole, if not, Blue Island will have learned a huge lesson and hopefully will not have suffered irreversible damage. For those that would rationalize, I have never had a position within this community and am just a loyal hard working Blue Island taxpayer that would like to see the RIGHT PRIORITIES be taken care of.

Just another example of what can happen when too much power is given to the wrong people. Please be aware. In this article, the wife also sits on the communities school board and the husband sits as vice president of the park board..... The taxpayers have to put a stop to this.
