This is one of the most racists posts that I have ever read on Topix. Blue Islanders are racially diverse. We all live and breathe together, sharing the same ideals. Safe neighborhoods, good schools, quality healthcare, decent city services and honest gov't are we strive for. We have been severely let down by the current administration. You turn our concerns into the race card. I could care less if Vargas was an Eskimo or an Aboriginal, he still would be incompetent at running our town. We do not reside in segretated towns for a reason. We live here! There may be a few fools spewing hatred on this site, but you are just as guilty for playing into it. This for me is pure politics. Plain and simple.
The above article is well written. The Author is answering a paid staffer from Springfield, who is providing damage control for State Rep Bob Rita. I agree with his argument. Unfortunately the current Calumet Township Organization must have CHAOS to survive. Shame on you.

Mayor Vargas has short term memory! He promised not to raise our taxes, and bring the entire city together! He totally forgot about honesty and transparency.

Mayor Domingo Vargas increased our taxes in the 2013-2014 tax levy by 4.9% the largest increase allowed without a public hearing. This is another political promise he broke. If you talk to him, you will walk away with the feeling he does not care! This extra money will go to pay for new employees who live outside of Blue Island. And to pay for other pet projects like wasting city monies on producing cable shows watching the Mayor assist in cooking class. Mayor Vargas forgot about rebuilding the BRIDGES,REBUILDING THE STREETS, OPEN THE RECREATION CENTER, ETC,ETC,ETC.
. How is this possible without home rule and what does it mean to the average homeowner?

. Unfortunately what he said ... Or didn't say ... Is of little matter. Remember he didn't show update at the candidate forum ... Should have been the first clue!
Pure and simple this has been a democratic socialist machine deal from the start ... And you won't get transparency or honesty ... A play out of the Obama play book . How many voted 2800? How many votes were tossed? Voter's were bussed in! This would not be happening under a Stevo administration ... Thank your local Democrat socialist for higher taxes, more government waste, and less money in YOUR POCKET!

If Stevo was in control of our city, it would look just as bad as his apartment buildings! He does not maintain them and they are an eyesore to the community. Yes, let's have someone like that run our city. Get real.

I do not know where his apts. are but if they are in such bad shape as you say they are the building dept. is not doing their job which means Domingo is not doing his job which means what would be different? Rita would not be in charge. I could tell you that.

Domingo operates like he always has; promote himself, provide no answers, know nothing, and do nothing for the good of the people.

Domingo Rents an apt. Stevo owns one. Who do you want balancing your check book? You are a stupid follower.

Bring your information to the next city council meeting. Find out firsthand why he does not maintain his property. I am also interested. I would like to know the addresses of his property.
Are his real estate taxes paid? If this property is not maintained up to code, he must be brought to justice. He continues to raise questions about the Township, about Mayor Vargas, this is a good chance to embarrass him. Is he a slum landlord? What is his credit rating?
We can provide voices in the audience to prove our point. If the building department would stop him from renting out the apartments, he could not pay the mortgages and he could be run out of town.

I agree. But then you must ask the same questions about Robert Rita. He owns several properties in town that are in deplorable shape.

So, he is investing his money in this community! I applaud him. Other People are leaving, and he is investing. We need more people investing in this community, and turn it around. Keep on investing Mr. Stevo. You must see something, that others are not.

Questions

Midlothian, IL

#36 Jan 7, 2014
When will the taxpayers be informed of the tax increase?
What is the plan for the extra revenue?
Will the services improve?
Will the administration do a better job on implementing a plan to fill all the empty and deserted store fronts with reputable businesses?
Will the most deplorable roads be repaired?
Will they make public a written plan to repair and reopen at least one of the closed bridges?
If the taxpayers are being made to give up their hard earned money, will the Mayor, administrators, aldermen and especially the city employees that earn and run (live out of town) be receiving pay cuts?
Will there be a public notice mailed out perhaps through the water bills to explain what will be done with this increase?
Not all taxpayers are able to attend city meetings due to shift work or subscribe to the city cable station. It seems there was no problem filling mail boxes with political adversments during election time to get the votes, now it is time to publically keep all taxpayers informed of the status of OUR CITY.

Your incompetent decisions in leadership are hurting one of your leaders and his family. It is your responsibility to protect your friends families. You have proved with your recent terminations of city workers that you really don't care about them or their families, but now your own city manager's family is being discredited on Topix. You are supposed to be a leader. Take a step back, look at how your inexperience has outraged our citizens and broken our city. Please resign before more children are discredited.

Where are the December payroll stats?
Where are Decembers accounts paid?
Why did they quit posting them on the cities page?
