Oh and despite the obvious needs of the city, the mayor feels its A-OK to spend taxpayer money on a new "sister cities festival" and carnival. Because...why?

I don't see much improvements to the city being made. Yeah some dead trees are being cut down. Big fat hairy deal.

That old folks home they built is a joke, from what I have heard they have almost no residents and nobody wanting to move in. So that was a huge waste.

They still can't find a retailer willing to go into the old Ace Hardware strip mall at Dixie and Joe Orr, and it continues to decay.

They built a new park next to the library that is overrun with the most ill-behaved teenagers imaginable.

Speaking of the library...the mayor's grotesque displays of political grandstanding concerning that organization were a disgusting abuse of power...and I am convinced they are not over...

The park district got a police force....why? Tell me again why?

Route 30 has more vacant buildings then active businesses. I'd never stop at a gas station there since people are routinely robbed or murdered at these places. surprised they stay in business...

No point in even talking about the east end or beacon hill. Those areas are way too far gone for rehabilitation....
You should run for office. However, my guess is that you are better at complaining than actually improving the situation.

Hey Digger, still waiting on the list of Gonzos accomplishments! Remember during the campaign, he put out that stupid flier with the Mexican guy dressed up like an Arab with a thumbs up and it read "Thank you, Chicago Hts!"? It went on to say that he was going to "make" banks invest in the area? Since seeing there is no new businesses and the town looks like Beruit, I would say the banks told him to go "stick it"! Another embarrassment, just like the one when that Indiana mayor gave him in court over his price of water law suit.

You do know the vendors "Paid" for their space to hold a vendors spot correct? Also many residence were able to come out and enjoy great food and entertainment with their family. Sooooooooo now What? I bet you complain about the fireworks which is a huge event also RIGHT? With some people if Faso was to do the same thing everything would be ok. But , Boy Boy Boy let a Hispanic Mayor who is educated and have resources do this, Shame on him.

Good point.

They never put forward their own ideas either, it's all just attacks and negativity. I'm happy to know that the people of Chicago Heights rejected all of that back in April 2011.

Hey pulp, I never once brought up race in this discussion, so I don't understand why you felt the need to....

You can assume racism on my part ifyou want, but it is totally a false assumption. Gonzalez succeeds or fails based on his merits and his actions, not his race.

You have some nerve! You can't name any credible accomplishments that Dave has performed yet you praise him constantly! This strange behavior started before he was even elected. Like I have said, PROVE everything you are saying. The city is in a never ending state of decay! Dave can't even name any of his accomplishments! Who should believe you, an anonymous blogger? Where are the New businesses?

As a former resident of da Heights, I'm wondering why none of you Gonzo supporters even comment about the closing of the former Well Group health center and the possible closure of St. James hospital as a whole!
Forget the piss-ant projects like opening a coffee shop or gas station, where was/is your mayor on these far more important problems? If st. James closes, the Heights is officially dead. And nowhere have I heard of your mayor even attempting to negotiate or get involved!
Good night and good luck, you have far bigger problems than you know...

Constructive ideas? A constructive idea would be to get out in front of a pending disaster and try to save something instead of replace it with a third-rate substitute!

What would you do with an empty St. James? Invite a prison into town?

Good leadership anticipates and acts proactively, it doesn't wait for the downfall and then promote a lame recovery measure!

That Wellness Center was falling apart and cost more to maintain that building than what they were bringing in. Notthing to do with the Mayor, blame it on the state not paying their providers. St. James has been struggling for years, so many people without insurance etc is a burden on the whole hospital industry. So don't try and blame it on the mayor. Oh and love the screen name Uncle Cracker, bet you have confederate license plate covers too huh.

...just like you, as Pulp Fiction, must have a corpse strapped on your hood!

Look, allow me to attempt to explain this so even YOU can understand....what I am saying is that over and above your irrelevant comments on the building's structural integrity, the fact remains that the town lost a vital resource, not only in terms of jobs but in terms of the town's very identity. You had something to be proud of, now your residents have to go to another town for services...again.

Take that and multiply by 100 if the hospital goes away. How many jobs are involved there? How about the overall image of the town if it goes?

Now, no one should blame your mayor for the closing of Well Group or what St. James is contemplating....but they sure as hell should blame him for sitting back and doing nothing to potentially mitigate these moves. Instead, he would rather cut a ribbon on a new park that no one uses in order to look like a power player. Puleeeze!

Great political force, my ass...you people get what you deserve I guess, you elected this guy who is the "boy who would be king". How about finding someone who really cares about the city and has the brains to try to make something happen? Is there anyone left there with the stones and brains to do that or has everyone sold themselves out for a city/park district/school job?

The mayor cannot negotiate because the city does not own either of those properties. So there's nothing to negotiate.

Again, you fail to present any real solutions… just sit on the sidelines and cry like Joe Faso, Jason Amos and the other losers.

Thank You Digger, Exactly. Just negative comments. If he got Mickey Mouse to come play with the children of Chicago Heights, they would say it should have been Santa Claus.

Insulting comments that should be directed towards your leadership. It is obvious that you two are lackeys for the administration.

You pea brains should realize that even though the city doesn't "own" the business, it can certainly influence what leaves/what comes in.

I guess this explains everything....if you run the city like you are a victim, you will become one...and the Heights is indeed poised to become finally dead for sure.

Hello!

I attended the city meeting on 9/6/2016. I must say I was very impressed with the Mayor's patience while being talked to disrespectfully by residents/mothers. He was very attentive, heard everyone out with interest, and replied with respect and love. Kudos to you Mayor Gonzalez. It's not an easy job, but when handled with love and respect it shows.

Thank you!
