Children in the El Morrow subdivision are spreading a rumor of a teen committing suicide. Tell me it's only a rumor. Anybody hear of anything as horrible as this? This is in Oak Forest.

I know times are different now then when I was in high school. We didnt have social media or cell phones and all of that. My family didnt have a lot. What drives a HS Sophmore to commit suicide? Where does the idea comes from? What problem seems so insurmountable that this is the only way out? Indeed it is sad.

It was 2 teenagers from ofhs that have committed suicide in the past week. Sad as it is the Highschool is refusing to acknowledge either of these suicides. The teenagers of the Highschool are in desperate need of grief counseling and if the high school can't handle it someone needs to step in and get these kids help. this is getting out of control two kids in less than a week someone needs to stand up and tell the school to get these kids help Before more follow the same path.

My sentiments exactly! If not for my constant "creeping" on my kids facebook I would not even know about this. I can't fathom the school's response but you better believe they are going to be hearing from me today!!!!

I didn't hear about the second one. My daughter is not in high school but did know about the first and talked about it. Most of the kids knew. I spoke to the Principal at her school who said none of the kids were talking about it and the schools counselors were on stand by for the high school. I told him they all were talking about it and writing "rip" on their hands. I think they missed the boat or were not observant enough or worse.

The High School is doing grief counseling. Check your email before speaking.

Since when is the school system responsible for grief counselling for these kids? All these posts and not one mention that its the parents job to be there to help their kids through the grief. Schools are not parents! Moms and Dads, go and talk to your kids about teen suicide and help them through their grief.

I did contact the principal at the high school today and expressed my concerns. He stated that they had needed to be careful re: privacy/family considerations and that in addition to the email blast that went out, they were arranging to speak with all classes to make sure that kids are aware of people to talk to and just to generally be supportive and encouraging. Such a difficult time for all around and sounds like they are handling in an appropriate, respectful manner.

We should counsel our own children and not rely on the HS. We are parents it is OUR responsibility.

In a perfect world, our kids would always come and talk to us.

In a perfect world, we would somehow know when these types of things happen so that we can bring up the topic, before it's too late.

My world is not perfect. I make no assumptions and take nothing for granted.

I appreciate the support and assistance from the school when such tragedies occur.

You assume that kids willingly come to their parents with their teenage problems.

Not sure what color the sky is in your world, but you watch way too many Brady Bunch episodes

Thus we can now assume you're an idiot.

The HS counseling would be support. Kids are not always going to go talk to their parents. Some kids don't like their parents, sad but true. Some parents could give a shit about their kids. Perhaps the young girl could have used some counseling. I doubt she went to her parents. It's not a perfect world, and that's the sad truth. If the counsels could reach one kid, it's worth it. Why not give them every opportunity to grieve or talk it out. What could it hurt? I guarantee even the parents with great relationships with their kids, don't know half of the shit going on.
