Just how many people are aware of a zoning change being brought up for a vote tonight.
Some peoples property will be reclassified to a lower zoning class if it passes. What does it all mean. Well lets just say it opens the door for developers. By down sizing lot sizes your allowing a builder to come in buy up a parcel of land and double the capacity of homes in your area. You might say it's knock down one build two. This ordinance would strip the planning and Zonings disproval of a proposed senior housing development. In which they expressed their feeling that the petitioners proposal was way to dense and needs to be lowered. Go to oak-forest .org and look at the agenda packet being prosed tonight. Might surprise you.

R1 classification would remain the same
80 feet wide and 10,000 square ft.
How ever many people will be reclassified from an R1 to an R2
60 feet wide and 6,600 Square ft.
R3 zoning will allow for 50 foot lots down for 60 feet.
Down sizing is never a good thing. This city community developer will make a case tonight that this move is necessary. I disagree. Shouldn't the public have a say so on this matter first. Lets hope it gets tabled.

The change actually allows tighter control over the residential classifications to prevent the type of changes that you think will happen. For instance, it will restrict on how large of a secondary garage or shed can be so that your neighbor cannot put up something that will be out of place in a typical subdivision, like can be done now.
There were several public hearings on this. Put the tinfoil hats away, this is not all gloom and doom.

You have me a little bit confused by your comment. Chapter 160 entitled zoning codes are comprised of 17different sections. I refer
to one section and you respond with a different section of the zoning
codes. Rezoning of property is in deed something of importance and
please chuck give me the dates of these public hearing. Also the notification by mail that rezoning of properties is taking place. Zoning ordinances are a must for any community. The only thing I was questioning was Section160.72 of our codes. I find fault with the size of permissible lot sizes. Appearing at a council meeting addressing
concerns under citizens participation is fruitless since the vote is always taken first before people can express there concerns.

The 2nd ward alderman stated during the meeting that this new ordinance would know longer require special ,permission to erect over-sized garages. Clean out the political garbage out of your ears and listen to what is said. Public hearings? I see nothing posted on the website about a public hearing for the purpose of amending the whole zoning ordinance nor could I find the document that was fully approved by the plan and zone commission. Why? Because it was done piecemeal.

You should get the garbage out of your ears. I just watched the meeting again, and what you say is false. The Alderman said if you live on a 50' lot, and you have a garage that was legal size when it was built you should be able to rebuild, or remodel the garage and keep the same size. The new ordinance still requires the same size restrictions as required in the old ordinance for new construction.

Not sure who 'chuck' is, but what-ev....
Yes, properties will be re-zoned, but if you would have read, it says that all currently zoned parcels that will change are grandfathered into their old classification, unless you want to make a change to your property. Seems pretty clear to me

Get ready for "affordable housing" folks. Why the hurry to ram this through when the so-called hearings have been going on for almost 3 years. Could our brilliant economic development people be on another buying binge? All you people who do not go to meetings will be sorry one of these days when this town goes completely under and that ain't far away.
